I appreciate the compression of the new ones, since I’m not skinny currently. And they do feel like leggings or yoga pants in the fall, winter and spring. But I absolutely hate pulling them on when I am sweaty or just out of a shower, or off when I am a hot, sweaty mess! They also chafe when I am sweaty, but the old ones did too.

I used to be. I am not slim any longer, sadly. I am also almost 6’ tall.

Have a look at polo breeches: they seem to be less clingy.
