As the title suggests I am wondering which Friesien stallion are better suited for dressage? I know they have been bred towards dressage in the past few years and some are built differently.
I am looking at a particular horse and am wondering about her Friesien lines.
thank you
I would take a look at what Iron Spring Farm has to offer. They have many nice stallions who have done well in dressage. Bruce Griffin also has Friesians (he’s in VA) although he isn’t focused entirely on dressage.
What are the mare’s lines? It can be very dependen on the individual horse. I would say, pay attention to the walk and the canter as those are usually their sticking points!
Some newer stallions competing at Grand Prix, Elias 494 (Jorn 430 x Maiko 373). Walt 487 (Gjalt 426 x Jillis 301). Goffert 363 (now deceased) competed at Grand Prix. Tjaarda 483 is at PSG or I1.
My absolute favorite stallion for dressage was Jillis 301. I rode 2 of his sons, one that made it to Grand Prix and one that was schooling 3rd and sold to an AA that wasn’t really into competing so his training stopped there. Beart 411 has some nice dressage-y offspring.
Not sure if any of those stallions share the same bloodlines as the mare you are looking at but just figured I’d through some of those names out there.
Facebook message Jess Mendoza and ask her what she and Julio think these days.
I love Tjaarda, he stands at Friesian Connection in Michigan. I think they are primarily breeding for more of a dressage type. Although I know very little about the breed, my coach also trains Tjaarda’s young rider. He raves about that stallion. I just saw him in an I-1 test, super athletic guy… and very professional, no stallion antics.
thank you all,
