FS stallions

Hi everyone,I have just purchased a beautiful thoroughbred mare and will be breeding her at the end of the year to a warmblood through Frozen Semen.I would like to hear people’s opinions on these stallions.(Frozen semen quality Ect.)

United
Laurentino
Routinier

Looking to breed a nice hunter horse for the show ring and compete in dressage. The mares areas which aren’t her strongest are her neck and hindquarters, her neck is well set but a touch short, hindquarters are pretty good but could be better. This mare has a very big shoulders on her and has a amazing temperament,I will get some pictures when it stops raining.thanks very much it is really appreciated

If anyone has any other FS stallions they recommend it would be appreciated.

FS stallions?

Just wondering why you are so intent on (F)rozen?

Landkönig or Viva Voltaire, Quite Easy, or Cheops Z, Schwarzenegger.

I want to use frozen because there are so many more stallions I can choose from. Why do you choose the stallions you said? What’s there frozen like?

Because they have both movement and jumping ability. And some of them you can get fresh. Are you familiar with Wb bloodlines?
Often good dressage movement is not what your looking for in a Hunter and vice versa. But if your not looking for UL in either, the recommended stallions should add to the equation.

Yes I am fairly familiar with warmblood bloodlines.I am in Australia so I am not sure I could get there semen shipped to Australia fresh

Do you mean a nice ridden/saddle hunter for the show ring or do you mean show hunter over jumps. In the US a show hunter is a very specific type that includes a long-low head carriage and gentle, daisy-cutter type action. This type of horse usually does not do spectacularly well in the dressage ring.

If you’re after a ridden hunter that has the conformation to win in the show ring and the movement to do well in the dressage ring, then I can think of quite a few that would fit that bill. Several stallions already in Oz would suit too. Ellington comes to mind.

Sorry I should have said ridden hunter for the show ring .I am particularly after good conformation and movement in the stallion.

Bump

I’d also be inclined to look at the stallions in Australia before looking for overseas stallions. In the past few years a lot of very nice stallions have been imported. I’d be able to make suggestions once you get some photos up.

Frozen can get very expensive very quickly, and it can also be very heartbreaking when the mare just doesn’t take.

You also say you are wanting to compete with the foal in the hunter ring - what sort of bone does your mare have? If she is very fine you’d want to look at the more solid stallions to try and produce something less hack-like.

She is not fine bone but not heavy bone either. I’m just really wanting to find a special stallion that is going to produce me a really nice hunter foal.

What stallions in Australia do u recommend?

It’s been a while since I was back home in Australia, so I’m not up to date on where all the stallions are standing, but off the top of my head I know that the Shoobridge’s have quite a number of top quality stallions:

Yes I know of there warmbloods, they are very nice but I want to have a look at my options I do like Riverside.Doing some research and I have come across a warmblood named Hancock does anyone know of him? I have only seen pictures of him under saddle.Would really like to know if anyone has a link to a conformation picture of him?

You can find a lot of photos and other information on his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HancockTrakehnerStallion

Or his website: http://starsandstripes.farm/hancock

He was just recently imported to the US, and seems like a truly stellar character.

Also look at these studs for some more options of stallions in Oz…

I know there are some more good stallions in Australia, just can’t think of them off the top of my head right now sorry.

Wow thanks for that!!! What do you think of his conformation? He
Looks good in the front but do you think he looks abit weak behind?

I think I am leaning towards united I really like him and he has some nice foals on the ground.Does anyone know what his frozen semen quality is like?

I have a personal love for Contenda (Contendro I x Bolero). He is an eventing superstar himself and is siring some very talented eventing youngsters. His offspring are absolutely good enough to be competitive at high level showing. Several have won showing championships under saddle and in hand.
