Currently looking to buy a 3 year old draft TB/perch cross. He’s at a bit of an awkward growing stage, but I know the draft crosses mature slower. Would love to see some baby glow ups and changes through the years. Especially draft cross youngsters.
The draftie types do take forever to grow up. My guy came to us as a yearling- boy was he butt ugly haha. Huge head, skinny neck, butt all jacked up. He’s 8 now and he’s just the kindest, best minded, handsome fella! He’s leveled out and is actually uphill built wohoo, filled out a whole bunch he must weigh 1300 pounds and he’s only 15 hands. But the last year or so he was still filling out and getting mature.
We just started jumping him about a month ago and he’s absolutely loving it.
Okay, I LOVE this!! He’s gorgeous!!
OK, not a draft cross but my APHA girl must hold the world record for fugliest weanling ever. She matured early and looked much better as a yearling and normal and very correct as a 3-y-o.
At nearly 24, she’s still gorgeous and never had a moment of unsoundness in her life.
Three or four months old. Cute, right? This is what she looked like when I bought her at 5 months.
Then at seven or eight months old. Aaargh! It’s FrankenHorse! What have I done?
Yearling. Looking better!
At three, first day under saddle. Looking like a normal horse, finally. No, she defied her genetics and never grew past 14.3hh!
At age 10. Looking good with her late “sister”, Cat on the Moon!
And this year, at age 23 with her other “sister”, Bo’s Typhoon. Still completely sound, sassy and opinionated!
Children’s book material. The feathers. The dapples.
