Full coverage fly protection

Allergy testing revealed my pony is allergic to just about everything. Vet chuckled and said even sending him north wouldn’t help

We’re starting allergy shots and have changed feed and everything else I can. We need a full coverage fly sheet. I’ve tried several sheets, repellents, masks, boots, etc but he continually bites his gaskins and forearms. Is there a light weight mosquito mesh that covers these areas?? The sweet itch sheets extend down the legs more, but tend to be a heavier mesh and too hot in the summer.

I’m hoping the allergy shots will help with the bug issue, but want to be ahead of the game going into summer.

I’m thinking about sewing legs on one of his sheets but I’d prefer to find one already made. Honesty, I’m not that talented at sewing, and pony is very destructive.

Thank you for any and all suggestions :two_hearts:

Have you tried adding in zyrtec?

My mare also has a lot of allergies (including black flies…now I know why she would run like a demon without a fly sheet when I first got her!). We’ve been doing allergy shots for just about a year…in her case they have been significantly helpful!

But, putting her on generic zyrtec twice a day along with the shots has resulted in her itchiness being just about gone.

Not suggestions about what sheets are better…mine goes in the Horseware fly sheets (sometimes the heavy mesh, sometimes the lightweight sheet) along with fly boots.

Ah it sounds like you need donkey pants! (With a sheet)

How adorable, right??

I’m in the same boat as you. Unfortunately, allergy shots, zyrtec, apoquel, acupuncture, and chinese herbs didn’t help mine. We are just managing but it is getting worse each year. This coming spring I’m hoping to do a combo of stall board during the day under a fan, hose, and then one of these sheets overnight plus fly boots and a mask:

These styles look like they may protect some of the areas of concern.

For mine, yes she’s allergic to everything but her own sweat is definitely the biggest trigger. Keeping sweat off of her and immediately covering any bare or broken skin with zinc oxide helps a lot.

Zyrtec contributed to anhydrous, unfortunately.

Donkey pant! Those would work!

Someone made a run in and fully enclosed it with mosquito mesh.

I’ve been looking into that! I think I might have someone that can bring him in in the morning for me and I can turnout in the evening. Some fellow boarders bought a decent mesh roll from Temu (sp?) that I can line his stall with and then put two strong fans in. His shed in the pasture is on its last leg so once it’s replaced I can modify it

@GraceLikeRain I bought the Rambo camo sheet from Stateline last night and will likely buy a sheet that was recommended from Australia

Poor kid.

Maybe you could buy an inexpensive fly sheet and have a blanket repair person fashion let covers out of it. You could kind of make your own sweet itch leg covers. Or buy sweet itch leg covers and have someone add appropriate fasteners to a fly sheet to attach them to your fly sheets.

*these are the little pants I was imagining having attached to the back of a fly sheet https://snuggyhoods.com/products/front-legs?variant=15863591632998

I saw a photo a while back for a whole fly suit made by Busse. I’m not sure if it’s still made but you might be able to find one new or used in the correct size.

I don’t know anything about this company but they seem to have some available.
