Full seat shopping

It’s been a while since I bought full seats, but I really need to refresh my wardrobe, as what I have is starting to wear out. I really liked the old Romfhs I have, but they’ve changed the models, and while I do like the Sarafinas a lot, they’re rather pricey for schooling. I like the Pikeurs or Ariat Olympias for showing, but again, pricey for schooling.

I hate the fit of the Pipers, but have a couple pairs because they’re cheap. I like the Hadleys but they run a little small. A lot of other breeches at that ~$100 price point seem to not come in Longs, which is a must.

Anyone have suggestions for schooling breeches (not tights, which I hate) that come in long and aren’t extravagantly pricey? I’ll probably pick up another pair of Hadleys next time they’re on sale, but I’d like to try something else, too.

I really like Horze Grand Prix. I do not know if they come in long, sorry.

I wish this style of FITs with front zipper came in more colors because they are SUPER comfy and are wearing very well. I’m tall and the long fits me nicely. They are $150 on sale but I find them worth it.

I’ve had some surprisingly good deals on Pikeur from a British online shop. Will try to find

I have wanted to try them because I always see such good reviews but I haven’t seen them in long.

If someone has them and could measure an inseam on a pair I’d truly appreciate it!

I’ve gotten good deals on Pikeurs from Calevo, so definitely not opposed to ordering from Europe. But stock seems really low right now. The only Luganas they have in my size are whites!

Yes I just went Googling for Equine and Country in Britain and they don’t have nearly as much as cheap as I remember. I think there are going to be increasing supply issues for this kind of nonessential stuff :frowning:

I’ve found the Tredstep Nero’s recently and they come in long! Basic colors (navy/grey/etc), but comfortable and fit true-to-size.

I’ll look into those! I have a couple pair of Tredstep Rosas with kneepatch that are a go-to schooling breech, so they do tend to fit me well.

It’s been a while since I bought mine - but I’ve had good luck with Dover’s Tuff Rider full seats for
schooling. They are inexpensive and come in a lot of colors. I need longs, too. . . they came in long
when I got mine several years ago. Mine have held up quite nicely.

I only wear FITS all season breeches. Yes, they are pricey but you can find them on sale periodically and they last for years. I was able to score two pairs of “bleu” for $100 off just last month. I typically get by with 2-3 pair lasting at least 3 years!

Love the Horze Gran prix too. Super comfy, not sure if they come in long, but they do run long. They wear like iron and wash well. Price point about $130.

Thanks for that info, maybe I’ll try them then!

I wish I felt more comfortable actually going into Dover and trying stuff on, because we have one near me. But popping in quickly to pick up clipper blades or something feels different than trying on clothes.

Don’t laugh, but these have been one of my favorite finds, I have two pair, they are always the first I grab, and they have been wearing like iron. Plus I’m 5’11 and go all the way to my ankles

Equestrian Collections has Romfh on sale right now. I’ve been working to upgrade my breeches collection (and get rid of my Pipers) so I’m super tempted by them!

Wow, at that price I’m giving them a try! Thanks!

I can’t figure out how to multiquote, but thanks @lorilu, I’d seen different measurements on different shops.

My only gripe about my Horze Grand Prix and Romfh Sarafina (both not silicone) is that the full seat pills. Granted I do have some thigh to thigh contact when I walk, but I thought they would wear better. They’re super comfortable otherwise, but the full seat material isn’t super durable IMO. I don’t have this issue with Pikeuer (different material).

I really wish the Horze came in other colors aside from black and white. I know their are more options for silicone seat, but I just can’t do silicone full seats.

On my Greenhawk Elation house brand the full seat pilled and then actually wore through in about a year. I got holes in the legs of the knee patch breeches too.

I experimented with second hand top end breeches and they lasted much better. I ended up getting new Pikeur Lugana and Cavallo Candy on discount for riding every day. I have never ended up dipping into the midrange breeches. My only complaint is that the nice dark Cavallo colors fade from the sun over a couple of years. Noticeable difference between my thigh and my calf covered by the boot shaft! At that price point they should not fade!

I feel like I’m reasonably rough on my riding clothes, I’m fleshy enough to put sone strain on them, I do self board, I do long trail rides, and it’s wet here. I destroy my work/ride paddock boots. If full seats were going to pill, they would pill for me.

I have a nice pair of as new Romph full seats from a batch of second hand gear I acquired years ago but I have only worn them twice so far for competition.

Good choice! I have three pairs and they fit me better than any other brand. The price is shocking for such nice breeches. They do wear well, too.
