I’m shamelessly promoting my friend’s blog, not because she’s my friend, but because she writes soooooooo well. She’s on COTH and she even quotes NancyM. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.
Thanks for sharing. I like the way she writes I’ve read several posts now. Wish she posted more often!
Sorry, but I can’t get past the photo at the top of the blog. One day after Helmet Awareness Day, there are so many ‘don’ts’ in that photo that I wonder the staff of COTH hasn’t called out their own blogger on it, given their strict policy (has this changed?) of no photos of mounted riders without helmets…
Scrolling down, it gets better…but that lead off photo doesn’t belong anywhere but in a safety video, as a ‘Don’t do any of these things!’ example.
I’m the author and I am surprised it didn’t take longer for someone to speak up!
I used to show AQHA and was actually one of the first people to show that circuit in a helmet, and I even wrote about the importance of helmets in a blog for the QH industry’s leading online magazine. It’s really old, but you can read it here:
I am also an avid supporter of and donator to Riders4Helmets, and used their saddle pads exclusively at the American Quarter Horse Congress that year. I stuck out like a sore thumb, but I believe in helmets.
That said, I am an adult. If I don’t wear a helmet while I use my old bomb-proof quarter horse as a chair in the corner of my arena and chat with my husband while our friend rides, I don’t think it’s the end of the world. I’m much less safe on my young jumper with a helmet than I am on ole Johnny without one.
Anyway, the photo was supposed to be about bad horsemanship. Guess I should have made that more clear, and I’ll think about changing the photo. Thanks for reading and for the feedback.
First impressions are everything aren’t they?
Without a “Don’t do this…” caption…there isn’t anything saying you aren’t that person in the photo.
I’ll take a glance when someone recommends a worthwhile read, but not much more when it looks as if it could be one more mushy touchy-feely “I just LOOOOVE my horse” blog written by someone who isn’t even serious enough to think they need basic equipment, such as a helmet…
