The Exmoor pony is not well known in the USA. They are an ancient breed that lives out all year round on high, rough moorland with wild weather in SW England. They have some unique adaptions to their tough environment, such as a ‘toad eye’ for protection from rain. Once a year, the farmers round them up to check them over, inspect the youngsters for breed standard and remove young stock for sale. Exmoors are used for conservation grazing around the UK and elsewhere in Europe as well as being good childrens’ ponies, though they can easily carry an adult too. They are not as rare as they were after WW2 because of hard work by breeders but they are still uncommon.

Thank you for taking the time to post this Willesdon.
Did my tired heart some good!
Thanks- lovely short! Back in the 60’s, there were several Exmoors in our Pony Club (Toronto
Ontario). Not sure why specifically they were imported but they were great ponies.
Re the film- I wonder where that gray came from?
