FUN Topic.....That pic you show off first

I can add to the QH appreciation! The first photo is me with the 4 year old racing bred gelding I got in a trade because he was a little too saucy for his owner. Here we’re in the lineup about to win champion hunter hack at the county fair. If I have him cranked in and look a little serious, you can see the muzzle of the horse next to us who was having a melt down. I was determined not to let that ruin our chances, lol. I did absolutely everything with that horse when I was in high school.

The second is the Appendix mare I sold last winter. I got her as a project when my WB prospect was not working out and was doing an extended residency with the trainer. She stayed with me for over six years and I trained her from green bean to 2nd level dressage horse. Not me riding, but this was her first time jumping this height. She was showing more enthusiasm for being a hunter than a dressage horse. She is a favorite at her new barn giving her owner a confidence boost and stepping in for WT lessons as well.

This was my arab/qh cross gelding I got when I was 12 as an unbroken 2 year old for $500 out of a cow pasture. I broke him to ride entirely myself and competed him at Novice level eventing a couple years later (with instruction). He had the best brain and loved to jump, even on his own as you can see from the photo! Awesome little horse. He was about 15.1 or 15.2.

I’m loving all the pix of OTTB, Quarterhorse, and crosses! :star_struck:

I am sure you have heard this before, but that first picture reminds me so much of the Pie in National Velvet jumping out of his pasture.

Aww…the QH luv! Our family had a pleasure bred (by a 3/4 brother to Zippo Pine Bar) QH gelding for 21 years. Purchased from his breeder, we literally knew him all his life. Originally my brother’s horse until he quit riding, then my last 4-H horse, then Mom’s trail horse and friend until the end of his days at 27. That little horse did just about EVERYTHING we asked him to. There’s video of him jumping bigger than he should have somewhere (as long as there were no flowers :woman_shrugging:), and yet I watched him STEP over a log on the trail that was taller than his chest because Mom was on him and he knew she couldn’t jump. Wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t been sitting on the next horse and saw it happen. And he was the holiday entertainment giving rides to ALL the kids. He was the absolute best.

On a trail ride I was following a small QH and we came to a log. The horses in front stepped over it, the QH hopped his front over, scooched up a bit and hopped his hindquarters over. :joy: It was so cute. His rider made funny noises of surprise “oh-ow” and “aye-aa”.

Thank you! He was actually the second we had of that cross. The breeder was a friend with one broodmare and one stallion, but that cross produced so many nice horses. Oddly, so many colors, too. I know of three this color, but also a buckskin, a red bay and a chestnut. Genetics can be so screwy!

He sounds special!! :purple_heart:

Very much so. By his all-Mom years, I could count on him to bring her home come hell or high water. I honestly think he would have died for her. Anyone could ride him, but he loved her.

I was looking at everyone’s pictures again and thinking how marvelous they all are. So many happy memories! And your jacket and apron are gorgeous. Love the colors. :brown_heart:

He looks amazing at 25! I would have guessed 10–12 years old, but only because it usually takes them a while to completely fill out.

Oh, he was “filled out” by 10! LOL Took me years to convince Mom that he needed to lose weight down to the size pictured. At 21, she was convinced he was getting thin and I told her, “those aren’t ribs, they’re dapples!” The day I took the 25yo, I had gone to see him and came back in looking for his bridle and Mom’s clippers for an impromptu photo shoot bc I thought, “darn he looks good! I better do this while I can!”

I just found this in an OLD file. This is the pony in my Grandma. SF Christopher. (he is a son of Baledon Nobleman) Doing his children’s clothing boutique modeling gig.

That was my idea for the young lady modeling to do a relaxed layback. He was being such a good boy. Of course it was a I’m gonna drop this rein, scoot out of the camera and you take the picture QUICK.
