"Fury"

Fury the ‘Thoroughbred race horse’ or ‘King of the Wild Stallions’ was of course, neither TB nor a Wild horse.

His registered Saddlebred name was Highland Dale.

While he was never bred, he was kept a stallion all his life and did win a Patsy. There are horses currently in the registry that trace to his dam line and of course, his great grandsires are all Saddlebred greats of their day.

He would have been considered a ‘Denmark horse’ due to his sire line going through Rex Peavine.

Saddlebreds are ammy friendly to this day!

He was also the horse used as Elizabeth Taylor’s horse in Giant.

If I recall correctly, Fury also played the horse in Oklahoma that runs next to the train, and the cowboy climbs on (or something like that, since it’s been years since I watched Oklahoma). I loved the Fury show, and Gene Autry, and all of the other cowboy shows.

Glad to know his registered name. Just seeing “Highland Dale” tells me a lot about his bloodlines, even before I go look him up!

I think when it comes down to it, my favorite breed really is Saddlebred.

‘Fury’ known as ‘Beaut’ by his owners as he appeared in GIANT with Elizabeth Taylor

Highland Dale preserved for generations to come -may the ‘cowboy’ movies live forever!

I actually sat on Fury. He toured the country in his custom Horse Van and when he came to New England my Dad had connections. There was a picture in the old family photo album of me on him bareback with the van in the background, I was 5 years old.

My 8-year-old self is pretty envious right now.

Every chance I had and even with 3 older brothers doing their best to destroy my joy.

Don’t forget the Cisco Kid on that stupendous black and white overo Diablo!

Rory Calhoun rode an equally spectacular overo in The Texan, a 50s western. Anyone remember Saturday morning’s Sky King? It was a western, but the plane was used more than the horses!

ETA: I found this:

I think someone who knew a little about horses directed this one: Note that he loosens the girth. Though I still have my doubts about tying by the reins! Especially when gunfights were likely to break out!! LOL

Yes, I remember and watched Sky King. I think it followed the Roy Rogers show locally. You’re right that it was more airplane than horse, but I watched it.

Did you know The Lone Ranger’s horse was originally called “Dusty” until Silver Cup Bread took over as sponsor

I always wanted to have my horse put his head in my bedroom window like Fury did, but my bedroom was on the second floor! And instead of rescuing me from various kinds of trouble, my pony always got me into it. Still love the little black monster, though!

O.M.F.G.
I watched that original … then realized:
The movie *Airplane. It had a LOT of references to older movies!
And now I just realized that Peter Graves is ABSOLUTELY parodying on that 1st “Fury” that OP posted!

Um yeah … this is a movie from - before

** OH yeah. Sorry, but “some” of you are probably too young to recall and/or appreciate those movies: they weren’t CGI or Anime crap.

Yes! A couple years ago I went on Ebay and found a couple of the books, too. I’d never owned them, just taken them out of the library. “Fury and the White Mare” was my favorite.

Giant is one of my favorite movies, but I can hardly watch the scenes of the nasty sister-in-law abusing Elizabeth Taylor’s horse. (Although it was all fake, of course.) I think Taylor did her own riding, too.
