G line stallion

Decided not to use it.

Anyone?

I’m thinking the best example would be Rhodiamant based on the pedigree of Romanov, Rubin Royal, and all the other offspring of Rumirell. There are probably lots of good crosses though.

My opinion is that you want G-line in the mother line. I would only do this cross if I were trying to get a good broodmare.

If I had my choice, is only have fillies.

What is it about that cross? Is it rhodiamant or something on the direct dam line that ‘clicked’? Are there any other examples of RxG that turned out good?

well you could lease my Sandro Hit Mare :). I think Grundstein went well With Sandro Hit ;). Like Sungold. And my Mare had only fillies so far

As mentioned above Rubin-Royal and Romanov were by Rohdiamant, but they were from a Grundstein II mare - not Grundstein I. There were actually five approved full brothers from that cross - Rubin-Royal, Romanov, Rubino Vincento, Ruling Action, and Rockefeller. Another son, Rumicello, was not licensed (not sure if he is still a stallion), but competed to FEI levels. There were also two mares from the cross that received State Premium awards.

The dam of all the above (the Grundstein II mare) was from a mare by Akzent II over Volturno/Chronos, so you might want to look at something from those bloodlines to use the Grundstein I semen on.

Also - Grundstein I sired Grannus (Grannus-Granit), and was also the sire of Gold Luck and Grand Sabre.

I would think you would want to use a modern type mare that could lighten and refine that blood.

Agree DY. What about a full TB mare? Bad idea?

I believe Grande Saber was out of a TB mare. I don’t know much about him, but have heard from several folks he was really quite nice. I believe he was used mostly for hunter breeding, but am not sure. Maybe someone else with more info will chime in here.

Besides color, how did Grudstein I and Grundstein II differ?

They were very dual purpose horses, good for all disciplines and Grundsteins can be found in jumping horses as well
Stallion Carbid is out of a full sister to Grundstein

They were also very willing performance horses and loved their work - or so i am told

I have a very modern Quaterback - Presidio - Tambourin - Bolero mare I would love to try with Grundstein I. Grande and Bolero always crossed well - good temperament and work ethic with that Bolero flair. Should be an awesome mover with a lot of flash. You’d have doubled Bolero and Graphit and Gotthard. Maybe a stallion to carry on the G line?

Bolero was 3/4ths TB, so maybe the idea of alot of “blood” is a good one…

I love Grundstein l or II. I bred a nice Don Frederico mare to Franziskus partly because he has Grundstein in the mother line. Make very good conformation, durable and all around athletes. IF I had a dose of his I would look at the Rhodiamont cross for sure. How much of this semen do you have? Please message me if want to part with any of it. Also, Grundstein with Absatz is good. They can be a bit short and tight in the back, good to fix if you have a too long too loose back/loin. I would not cross on a mare with a tight or short back.
