Gah! I did the math and

I am on my last one…pretty sure. Not because of anything to do with the horse or myself but I board and boarding is fast getting to be non-existent around here. Add she was just diagnosed with some mild hock arthritis (injections last Tuesday) and I probably need to find a place where she has more room to move. If I move her it will likely take 45-60 minutes driving one way and that will leave even less time to actually ride (see below).

I am 69…currently caring for my 94yo mother so as it is, horse time is way down. Kyra is 22. So when she is gone, I am calling it as a horse OWNER. If/when Mom is gone, I may pursue a part lease but am pretty sure I will be done owning. I am pretty sure I can find a situation where I can still ride a bit. I haven’t been able to do a whole lot in the last few year anyway between my unsoundness and taking care of Mom so I have found a bit of riding is better than none .

@Jackie_amp_Starlette – be cautious about “the rescue will take the horse back” statement. It may be the organizers means it when he/she says it, however, much can change. My riding buddy took a rescue horse (1K donation) that was supposed to be an 8 year old mare with good ground manners started under saddle. Rest of the story is prosaic: got on the horse three times, bucked each time, finally put her in the hospital the last time. She sent it to a trainer for six months, horse came back, still bucked. She hired another trainer who worked with the horse ONCE and said, “Not safe.” and suggested she return the horse to the rescue . . .

Friend called --Rescue promised to pick up, then was vague on when. Friend offered to drop horse off, Rescue said, “you’ll have to wait, we have no room,” and this dance went on and on --friend was now $3K into a horse she could not ride. Finally, she placed the horse with another trainer (successful Mustang Make Over contestant 3 times) --after a year ($800 a month) the horse is now rideable --I’m told. However, friend still hasn’t ridden the horse . . . she say she may have the trainer sell the horse for her --and have we done the math? She has a horse that she has invested $12-13 K in that she isn’t riding.

I understand. My friend was looking for a pasture companion for her other horse, so it worked out. Thanks!

the same size pony we had lived to be 45 years, that was the closest age we could obtain he may have been older and certainly not younger
