Gaited morgans?

I’ve been looking at gaited morgans but it seems like the breeders are all in the West. I’m in Virginia. Is there anyone on the east coast who sells trail ready gaited morgans? Or is there someone so honest that I can buy one sight unseen and trust the seller?
My impression is my options are limited.

Thanks.

As you your last question, you’re likely one your own.

G.

I fell in love with one last week … unfortunately he is in the Midwest.

Have you checked dreamhorse.com? I can’t vouch for it but have seen some nice horses there.

These people may have some info: https://gaitedmorgansassociation.com/index.php
The article I found on their site is 8 years old but if they’re still active they may be helpful. They have a link to a farm in Kentucky https://gaitedmorgans.com/
and one in Georgia as well as one in Alberta https://gaitedmorgansassociation.com/links.php

Good luck!

I don’t know where you’re looking — Jellico Gaited Morgan’s has been around for eons — they are in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

The true gaited Morgan is rare. A gaited horse is genetically bred to the gait, but some breeders of non officially gaited breeds are using mechanical tricks for training a non gaited horse such as soaring by cutting or cuffing front and rear feet. Chains are used in training, (not for a real gaited breed). A gaited horse must never break into a trot (some will) that they can easily be trained out of it. The trot is a natural movement for no gaited, but a fast/ running walk, “Paso llano” has the four beat gait, with the rear feet over striding the front. Morgans are great breeds but the rule of riding a gaited horse is always the four beat gait for general movement, add a cantor or rack in some, and yes they can gallop and do so naturally.
