Saturday I woke up to find that my 2 year old Cocker Spaniel had horrible yellow diarrhea and was vomiting pretty violently. And the poor little dude was in PAIN. We rushed over to the vet and initial thoughts were pancreatitis but vet said that the pancreatitis test was just a shadow which indicates that there might have been some old pacreatic scarring but doesn’t indicate that there is any active pancreatits. (Not sure if the pacreatitis test is a snap type test or what?) Ran more blood work which pointed towards his gallbladder being the reason for his illness.
We gave him fluids since he was dehydrated and he’s on flagyl and cerenia. He seems a bit better but continues having some issues with vomiting and diarrhea, though not as bad as before. He is also still a bit tender in his abdomen but this doesn’t seem to prevent him from resting comfortably for the most part.
I didn’t get a lot of time with the vet on Saturday as they were busy and only one vet was on duty so I feel like I didn’t get a lot of guidance here. I’m also a little concerned that he wasn’t given anything for pain. Has anyone experienced gallbladder disease in dogs? All the research I’ve seen shows that it’s most common in older dogs so I’m a bit surprised that my usually bright active 2 year old is supposedly suffering from it.
