Bear in mind that I’ve probably read too much Dick Francis over the years, but… consider the possibility that this horse, the one that did poorly at the show, and the one that COTHers hope to check on, may no longer be OP’s friend’s horse, but a plain bay TB substitute. Perhaps OP’s friend’s horse has already been sold on, or is being hidden somewhere until the expected “flip” sale can take place. The good news, in that case, would be that they haven’t ruined a good horse.
I kept wondering why they made a point of sending the Christmas photo and admitting that they changed his name, food, and supplements. Then I thought that perhaps they sent the photo to establish, in case “proof” was needed, that “this” is the horse they received from OP’s friend… at Christmastime, 2007 (as can be seen, I assume, from the card).
EC, can your friend be sure that the horse in the photo is hers?
(Or maybe it was just an innocent, friendly photo, card, and note, in which case it was rather sweet of them.)[/QUOTE]
now that id what got me - the xmas photo the chnage of name this isnt co -sher
its some sort of scam –
there are good cothers about that will help you-- look ok eeen if the the cother picked it up and trnasported to xyz getting back – but there are other cothers if no one could take it in over night then we do have on her rescue places that would-- help to
the important thing is to get the horse away from the trianer even if she cant afford to take him all the way back home then you could have alturnative
a rescue center - a coth reguular dunno whos the nearest
you could arrange for horse to be drop off what care it needs it will get then have the horse put up for sale from there with – a cluase from owner to center
till you can get it home/sold and if you sell him from there or at anytime you give the center a reasonable donation to cover costs incured plus a bit of commission so they have nice lump sum out of it ie 10% of the sale price goes to the center think thats fair as its going to a good cuase and they helped you out in an odd situation but care would be given imedataely if the horse needed it…
iam sure someone from coth would help also they know about laws and stuff of each county
so if the perosn that has it been out of line in lack of care they know who to report it to
ok gang lets help this poor girl if i was in usa i would help and actually go and get him back plod in tow
so who is in florida–
and whos the nerest coth rescue center whereby if you cant keep him over night he would be safe until next pick up point
what we need is a plan to get him back frrom point a-- to point b
and if no stable the nearest cother with facilties to help her sell him
www.pet-id.net/appform-silhouette.pdf
have posted here for silhouette so op-- can print off and fill in with red pen all the markings of the horse in question-- so that who ever goes to locate said horse has that and a photo— might help who ever goes to check so they can email to the people doing a look see
all white areas to be denottaed by red pen-- ie forleg white stocking - so ut a red line across where it end on the diagram of the leg–
any other marks like whorls- to be describe as where on the horse – ie head neck chest
any other marks like probhets thumb – or ermin marks do a black circle as to where they are on the body
that way its easy also describe any and all markings ie brands etc
makesure you have a photo on won with no tack and another with tack and one thats palited or palin mane as some horses look completed different when tack up so make sure you have a good selection of photos
Guin, you are right-on. This person is not the sharpest tool in the shed and needs to learn she isn’t going to get bailed out on responsibilities she needs to take on as a grown up. I am stunned. OP, you need to cut her loose to fend for herself. I would be upset enough I would walk away from the friendship, here too,.
You aren’t doing anyone any favors by trying to rescue her from herself. She needs to live with the consequences of her actions. You need to step out of the picture.
Epona,
Your friend needs to demand payment NOW or bring the horse home.
Where does he need to ship to get back to her? Maybe we can start a COTH chain and get him home for her…
If he needs to come by me I’ll do some driving.
Seriously peoples, let’s get this horse outta there.
Face it, folks. We can sit here and get all kinds of indignant about the way the trainer and buyer are behaving, but in the end the seller will no more listen to any of these suggestions now than she did in the beginning of this debacle. The OP holds absolutely no sway over this idiot seller, and isn’t going to suddenly start affecting her now.
The seller wants to be bailed out and rescued from her stupidity. I am one who would say lets her sink. The OP and other people here probably won’t and will rescue her.
That’s too bad, becfause this is an excellent opportunity for her to learn about being responsible and taking the consequences of one’s own behaviour. I think she is hard-wired to be a victim. Hope the horse is basically happy, in the end.
Let her sink?? Granted lessons need to be learned but I think she is catching on already, don’t you?
I’m with helping her within reason without becoming liable ourselves. Before I would haul the horse anyplace I would ask for a “waiver” of some sort…that sort of thing…but help her I would…
wonder why the OP went back and edited the first post last night?
If this horse is in or near Ocala and needs picking up, please PM me. I have friends in that area that have a training facility and might do it for the OP, if I asked them.

I think she has to edit the first post to edit the title to show the update… It still looks like the same origional post to me:yes:
Wouldn’t she have to hit edit on the first post in order to update the title of the thread?
Holy moly–your friend took this?? How is this trainer’s moron acting clients the seller’s fault?? Your friend is waaaay too nice–I would have probably said something like “not my problem, where’s my money?”.
I get the scary idea that FL trainer is going to boot these clients out on the 15th & your friend may be really SOL in getting the horse or $$ then. OR the FL trainer said all this to calm down the seller (friend) so they can get what they want (more time & showing).

Because I’m a SCAM ARTIST, obviously.
Do you want me to stop changing the title of the thread? Because then I’ll stop “editing the first post.”
Drama llamas.
Here’s the thing about depositing the check - if they are really playing the seller - and it seems that they are - they will have written the check off an account that has no funds in it. And on the 15th they will transfer enough funds to cover the check. That way if she deposits the check ahead of time it will bounce, and they will not be out any money. I don’t know contract law in either Kentucky or Florida, but verbal contracts can be very tricky. She has agreed to hold the check until Jan 15th. Since a lot of this deal has been verbal - she may have established a precedent for verbal contracts in this deal. And while she can demand a wire transfer, unless she is willing to have a shipper sitting in their driveway on the 16th w/o a wire transfer, the buyer doesn’t have to agree to it. Have her talk to her bank about the day to deposit the check so that it hits the seller’s bank on the 15th. Don’t wait until the 15th to deposit it in her bank.
My SO has an account set up much like this for his business - for wire transfers for buyers of his products he provides this account number, then transfers the funds out when deposited. He has done this after getting burned on a foreign transaction, since foreign banking laws are different than US and the buyer had a reversal initiated after receiving the product.
Anyone want to work on a quilt for this one?

29 pages of drama here. Yes, someone’s a drama llama .
most of us old timers who have been around the block once or twice have learned from experience that when it comes to horse sales…Trust NoBody !!! Seriously . There are a few out there who are honest and straightforward, however ,there are many, many more who will screw you blind without a second thought.this includes the sleazy back yard redneck, the apple pie ,all american housewife,on up to the big name trainers.
The seller in this case is young ,and is now learning that lesson first hand, the hard way. I think the trainer is still yanking her chain. She probably needs to make arrangements to get the horse, and I hope her contract stated that his return would be at their expense. After alll they have had a free lease all this time. Horse is probably going to need some remedial training ,to bring it back to where it was.
If seller wants to enlist the help of some cothers ,there are volunteers standing by. It would be excellent if a lawyer could make a visit to scare them into doing the right thing ,and just paying for the horse, already. I would ask for a wire transfer of the money ,as a cashiers check can still have a stop payment put on it,or send the horse back within 48 hours. They have not acted in good faith which would make the previous arrangement null and void.Horses well being is a stake. i would not want this kid showing this horse and doing further damage to it ,unless she has paid for it. But that is just me.This is exactly why I wouldn’t allow a horse off the property without cash in hand.
Wow, poor horse. Sounds like some $$ in chiropractic and retraining will definitely need to be spent when/if she gets him back…what a disaster.
I agree that she probably can’t ask for the horse back prior to the contractual trial extension, but as a concerned owner looking after the well being of her horse, I think she has every right to say ‘no’ to more shows unless the contract specifically allows them. If that girl gets hurt by the horse at this show, the owner is liable. And the way it sounds like the girl is riding (and is being ‘helped’ by her ‘trainer’), getting hurt sounds like a quite likely outcome. Plus having this girl take him to another show is obviously bad for the horse’s training/future saleability.
I think after hearing what a bad match for my horse this girl is and how her trainer is obviously not knowledgeable enough to help her through that, my mind would be made up. I would tell them that the sale is off and find a way to ship him back. If the owner still wants a chance at the sale going through, definitely send a registered letter restating the conditions/timeline/price that are outlined in the contract, include a copy of the signed document, and give them a deadline. If X is not paid for horse by X date, he will be picked up and shipped home at their expense.
I sure hope all works out one way or the other and the horse is ok. Good luck Epona, watching friends make bad decisions is hard, glad you have been there to help open her eyes.
Some people should not own/sell horses. If they cannot be better businessmen/women, leave it up to others. We need to try and be resonsible when sending horses off to who knows where and who knows who - at the very least! IT’S NOT AL ABOUT THE MONEY, GUYS!
Okay, so as far as this situation goes, until the 15th, theres obviously nothing I/we can do to get anything done. So I’ll keep updating, but I’ve about had it with the whole thing. Hopefully I won’t need everyones help, but it may still happen.
I should know where the show is by this evening, hopefully someone can attend it. The show last weekend was a “GOHJA” show. Doesn’t look like they have a show this weekend.
This is the email she got today, edited:
"[Intro, blah, blah, we love the horse… blah blah… here’s some pictures from the show… blah, blah]
I do have one request. I have a vet check scheduled with vet number one on Tuesday, January 15th. However, the vet that I would really like to do the prepurchase exam is vet number 2, but he does not have an opening until Friday, January 18 th. vet 2 specializes in TB’s and leg problems and he would be a better choice to view the x-rays etc. The reason I had to wait until the last week is because we have to remove his shoes for the x-rays and we did not want to do that prior to the last show, which is this weekend. I have over $1000.00 invested in your horse already and the prepurchase exam is going to be between $600 and a $1000, depending on the number of x-rays that we need to take; so I will have somewhere between $1600 and $2000 invested before I know 100% that the purchase is going to take place. That is a lot of money, over and above the purchase price, and I hope you will approve an extension until Friday, January 18 th."
I’m so over this.
