Regarding the check that epona’s friend had…I think that was just a story that she told epona and she never actually had a check.
I don’t know what is worse in this whole thing…the crap that the people in Florida (and Thing 1/2) keep pulling. Or the fact that epona’s friend just keeps taking it. She has let them walk all over her, but that doesn’t mean that she has to keep taking it. She can put her foot down NOW and salvage something of her pride here at the end (of course, I’m assuming that the end is near). If she wants to. But it seems that she enjoys being screwed over. :sigh:
Ravenclaw, that’s exactly what I was thinking. They buyer and both trainers are walking all over the seller, but she tatooed “WELCOME” on her tummy and threw herself in front of them.
Seriously, this kind of thing really bothers me - there are a lot of potential buyers who are honest and responsible who want to do a reasonable trial, and this kind of behaviour discourages all sellers from considering it.
Yup, as someone who has taken a few beastiess on trial (and bought said beasties in a timely manner with no trix, I might add), they are making us look bad :mad:

Agree about the trial thing. Trainer friend of mine just had a horse in on trial for a client for 2 weeks. Needless to say they bought the horse and paid in a timely manner, as per the terms they agreed upon. Heck, seller even took a 1.5 hour drive up to the new barn to check it out and see the place in person. Family handed over check for horse and everyone was happy. Seller seemed a little surprised they didn’t even haggle over price. They explained the horse was VERY fairly priced, trainer was very happy with her, and they appreciated the 2 week trial to evaluate her in their barn and in their daughter’s lesson groups. Win, win for all around in that case. This one… well… choo choooooo.

I’m not as critical of the horse’s owner/seller as some. I do think she’s allowed herself and her horse to be used, but I suspect that she’s in a tough situation, money-wise, and may not have the funds to take the horse back and then market it again.
I think the biggest share of blame goes to the trainers. The seller might not have agreed to the initial trial and various extensions if it wasn’t for the fact that she knew the trainers involved. She may have thought (clearly in error) that the trainers would act responsibly and ethically towards someone they knew. Not.
The buyers are also at fault. Clearly what they wanted was a free lease with an option to buy of a horse who was show-ready. They couldn’t find such a horse, and so they traded on one owner’s cluelessness to string her along and get 45+ days of free showing and riding at no risk to themselves.
