Games Trainers Play: The Florida Horse Saga

In the spirit of the 1500’s…did I understand that Daddy paid 20,000…seller got like 6500…and trainers got the rest? Or was that a wild assumption somewhere?

Epona…are you telling?

birdsong, I believe that daddy is saying he paid $20K for horse, but didn’t. Probably ended up somewhere between $7500 and $10K. I just hope it was worth it, aggravation wise, for the seller. It sure wouldn’t have been, for me.

And I do hope Thing 1 and Thing 2 get thrown under the bus. What a couple of slimeballs.

Well hot dog. Friends, if I am ever on the screwed end of a deal like this, I will certainly know where to turn… COTHdogs on the prowl!!

Could we get that in horsey stick art?

Can I do prices? Now that the horse is sold? Will I get the boot? I guess if I get banned, I’ll know it wasn’t okay?

Original asking price of the horse (sales ads) was 9k.
Contracted price by buyer and seller was 7500.
Final selling price was 6500.

Trainers weren’t THAT involved in the sale, and the check came though the buyer (aka DB), so anything the trainers made wasn’t out of my friends pocketbook- the sellers would have been in charge of that.

Ay yi yi, all that for a stinkin’ $6500!!! Your friend could’ve worked at McDonald’s for 3 months and EARNED that much money - with less aggravation!!!

well, I personaly think they got a steal!! That horse is a saint for putting up with that kid yanking his face/mouth off over every jump!!

This whole thing wouldn’t have been worth it for me! I might have taken the horse to the next town, but you wouldn’t have caught me sending any horse I own to Florida!

I still feel sorry for the horse! That kid needs some real lessons… :uhoh:

Anyway, I’m hanging around here for a couple weeks until the check clears!!!

Well I have been following this thread, and I sure hope it was worth it for Thing1 and Thing2…the buyer sounds like the kind of clueless tw@t that gives his little girl everything, brags about it, then when she doesn’t listen to her trainer and doesn’t get the ribbons (blaming the horse the entire time), the child either quits riding or they go find another trainer and do the same thing over again…ugh, poor horse.

Wow! Thanks for sharing all that. I’m gonna miss this thread when it’s gone. It deserves a place in the COTH Hall of Fame.

I think this update should have been entitled “in which Thing1 and Thing2 remind us why the term ‘horse trader’ is a negative term”

D*mn so called trainers giving horse people a bad name. In the spirit of Marie Antoinette… Under the bus with them!!!

OK next thought to clarify…did seller have to pay for the horse to be transported to Fl? Is so, that comes from her 6500.

tidbits (name redacted)…

Hunter, Jumper & Pleasure Instruction, Training, Judging

Based in Clermont and working with riders in the Central Florida area, * is a third generation horseperson. Her exposure to horses began literally at birth, as both of her parents are trainers and instructors. She began showing at the age of six, and has spent over thirty years sharing her extensive knowledge and expertise with others through lessons and training. Over the years she has worked with the British Pony Clubs and spent 15 years as a 4-H leader. She is a private trainer who works with a very limited number of students. She does not advertise her services, but finds all her students by word of mouth. In addition to offering lessons for beginner to advanced riders in hunters, hunt seat equitation and jumpers, she also provides instruction for pleasure riders. Students are taught on their own horse and must be at least six years of age.

Although she truly enjoys working with all her students, * particularly enjoys those riders who have had a bad experience with other trainers, are middle-aged riders, or are riders who feel some level of anxiety while riding. Her foundation for training is based on two firm beliefs. First, the majority of problems encountered by horse and rider are the result of an inability of each to understand what the other is “saying.” Second, the most important aspect of riding is having a rider who is correct and balanced; which must be accomplished before the rider can ask the horse to correctly do his job. Furthermore, it is her goal to achieve the highest level of performance and success possible with the existing horse and rider combination, not to convince the rider to sell their horse and purchase another, more expensive one. As such, her personal measure of success is in her students’ individual accomplishments, from doing well in a show to understanding a concept of riding during a lesson. Each rider’s achievement, regardless of how great or small, is personally significant to her. Creating the successful horse and rider team that can effectively communicate with one another in a relaxed and positive manner is her greatest joy.

gag me with a spoon!~

Seller didn’t have to pay transport.

:rolleyes: Can we hope that you are naming names on the other site?

Yahoo brings it up immediately. It was second in my list of results on a search using Clermont Florida Hunter Jumper Pleasure Instruction.

The site said it had had 354 views since May of I believe 2004. Will be interesting to watch that number over the next few days.
