Gang Ranch, BC

Gang Ranch is advertising a job opening - part time cook, gardening, cleaning etc. On ranch accommodation. Could be something that might suit a COTH reader looking for a life change. Leave the craziness of civilization, and trade that for the craziness of remote living and ranch life. I presume they have a website, and details of the job should be explained there. Also available on facebook, but I am too much a tech dinosaur to be able to link that here for you.

I recently picked up a small press Iocal history of the Gang Ranch from the feed store. It has quite the history, and at least circa 1900 was the biggest ranch in the world. It’s in beautiful country.

Truly weird - I know a guy that just applied for this job. Chances are pretty good that you know him to, NancyM

LOL so PM me who it is @sk_pacer! We are a ways away from the Gang Ranch, but their mail gets delivered from our post office (once a week). I think it would be an interesting thing to do, to work there (for the right person LOL).

Looks like multiple jobs - also a cook who will travel the range with the cowboy crew and make food in remote camps, and a farmhand to feed cattle and make hay. (It also says you must be a Canadian citizen or already have a Canadian work visa, which eliminates a large percentage of COTHers right there.)

Yes, pretty much every country requires you have citizenship or papers to work there.

But in some cases the new employer will sponsor you to get the work papers/visa if from out of country. They are saying they will not do that - they must already be in place.

Yes, furlong47, that is a restriction for potential workers to keep in mind when considering applying for this job opportunity. There are, however, 30 million people living in Canada, and others without Canadian citizenship who do have the necessary credentials to qualify for this job. Some of them are members here on COTH, or know someone who is. Apparently there is one application on it’s way already! I wonder how many applications they will have to choose from? I think it is a dream job for a certain type of person.

It’s a pretty remote location. Some of the workers come to our town on days off, they all dress the same. “Cowboy” attire, circa 1860. IDK if this is a requirement of the job, or by choice.

In Canada as in the US the employer needs to prove that there is no one to fill the job or the desired empolyee has specialized skills before they can get employer sponsored papers.

To work in Canada or the US, that means a college degree and a specialized field. An American ranch could probably not get a work visa to hire a Canadian ranch hand or vice versa.

Indeed, Canadian bands and film makers are often turned back at the US border if they look like they are going to be active in the US.

International riding clinicians need special short term visas to enter either Canada or the US.

There are other visa avenues for temporary foreign laborers (typically domestics and farm workers) and student work abroad visas (the Canadian ski industry seems staffed by young Australians).
