Gate question

Then I definitely need them in black. Thanks for the warning!

It all depends on the prep before painting. I painted (black) three 12’-14’ galvanized metal gates I didn’t sand but first washed them with a degreaser then wiped them down with vinegar. Nine years later and not a single flake has come off these heavily used gates

@Alterwho–you are correct. The one galvanized gate still looks great after painting. It is the tube gates that didn’t hold paint.

My gates are galvanized tube gates

Each of the thumbnails is a category, so click on them and you’ll see all the options. I like Behlen but supposedly Tarter is cheaper?

Find your local dealer and give them the SKU, they should be able to order them. I just went through this for a new property - I wanted very specific colors and ended up shipping some from TX to CA to save some $$$.

I went through this here in MA. TSC does not carry black, only red, green, and blue. Had to order through a local store, which I was happy to do, but ordered Behlen County gates and they only do deliveries when the order is a minimum amount, so I had to order and WAIT for the store to need enough additional inventory to place their own order. They then got delivered and - wouldn’t you know - were damaged in delivery (Behlen’s fault - they put the straps on too tight). Okay, so didn’t have to buy them obviously, but then hat to WAIT AGAIN for the next order/delivery.

Oh, and many of them are already rusty. I think I ordered the medium weight ones, which I thought were powder coated, but they are just painted.

Not particularly happy with them, if you couldn’t tell.

Lowes sell Tarter Gates;

Therein lies the problem…

Play around with the Store location and delivery zip. It may be that you have to look in agricultural areas ?
Are you close to 46401 ?

No I am not, it’s my company’s proxy internet stuff. Even my local zip Lowes doesn’t carry them.

We have several hardware stores to choose from around here. Menards is the cheapest, and you’ll know it with selection and quality. Home Depot has better selection and mid range pricing. Lowes is by far the most expensive, but the highest quality.

I think I should be set with the SKUs that I wrote down off the main website, and going into one of the dealers. At least, I hope. I wonder if they’ll give me better pricing on everything, since I need a metric ton of fencing supplies.

Well looks like you’re in a black-gate-dead-zone

As far as in stock, yes! I’m hoping I can order them though.

I like that they also have bull gates that are heavy duty.

i’ve gotten all my panels and gates from Red River (https://www.redriverarenas.com/gates.html)

Because i was getting into mustangs i needed a source for 6’ and heavy gauge (12 or 14). Once i had my basic configuration i called to place my order, (for delivery) The kind i wanted were square not round and they were no longer making them. They offered me the rest of their stock at a crazy low price! So i bought them all. Perhaps they have others in a different gauge that are square? Might give them a call.

And i hear you on colors… My original farm gates are blue. true blue. So that kinda set the color tone for everything around the barn…buckets, feed containers… I would rather have neutral, but i’ve learned to get along with just one color. What i really don’t want is to have my barn look like a children’s playground.

Late to the party. I was in the same no black gates land. A local fence dealer was able to order them for me. I still have the extra I bought because I needed 4 but had to buy 5. Do love the gates so worth it. Heavy gauge black mesh. Good luck!

Well, went to Farm and Fleet and got the gates ordered. It apparently is an uncommon request, because (despite the fact that I had called the day before), it took quite some time to even figure out how to do it.

At any rate, done. Up to a potentially 12 week lead time.
