Anyone using a gel seat cover for western saddles that they recommend? a friend has a saddle that has a very hard seat. She can’t really afford to get a new saddle, so was looking for the best gel seat cover she can get.
I live in a very hot climate, and here gel seat covers are very uncomfortable do to the heat they trap and the sweat that is the body’s response to that heat.
I strongly prefer real fleece seat covers. SStack and RidingWarehouse both have real fleece western saddle seat covers.
Go with the fleece or synthetic “fleece”…although the real fleece dissipates heat better then most of the synthetics. I tried the gel, it worked but no better then the fleece and was more costly. Had a cheaper gel one but it didn’t hold up despite the fact I didnt use it that often, I’m not that heavy and rarely rode for more then a couple of hours at a time, usually 30-60 min 3 or 4 times a week. More then half of that time on flat terrain or in tne arena.
no, she really has NO cushioning in her saddle seat. She needs gel. as thick as possible.
A client has a gel seat saver. It doesn’t have a make on it, but I am thinking maybe Tough 1 brand? It’s just a basic gel pad that connects to the saddle with adjustable. nylon straps.
it has made a HUGE difference in her riding and comfort as she has an older western saddle with no padding too. She has had no complaints about it. Works both in summer and winter.
thanks, i will look into it.
Cashel “Tush Cushion.” They come in 2 sizes and thicknesses. Long and standard. I have the standard one, 3/4", and I LOVE it.
