Gelders blood in dressage breeding...?

I recently came across the stallion Alexandro P and really like him. I don’t really have much experience with these horses but my personal riding gelding (doing all the PSG) is Gelders on the dam side and I see the same hind end in Alexandro.

Here is video of him:

Has anyone else used Gelders in their dressage breeding program…especially on non gelders mares? If so, what was the result? What do you think these horses bring to the equation?

Thanks!

Talk with Scott Tolman of Shooting Star Farm…he really likes Alexandro P.
Personally I have had one part Gelders foal…loved her, and sold her pre-weaning a few years ago. Stallion was older, imported part Gelders himself. Super temperament and work ethic.

Siegi has a Gelders mare. Invite her to your thread.

Love that stallion. Now that Judy Yancey has him in stock, I hope people are using him.

I love Gelder blood and all my Dutch mares have some in them. I purchased Zooloog semen (touted as one of the foundation sires for the Dutch horse) who was 100% Gelder to be used on my Hemmingway mare. I would love a filly with this cross to keep for future breeding. Gelders have such good temperaments and work ethics in general. They tend to be a little coarser and some people don’t like that but I feel if you want a more modern type then just make sure your mare has good length of leg and a nice neck and head and then you should be fine. I am definitely looking into Alexandro P myself, good luck.

Hi Everyone! Although this is a very old topic, I would like to try and get in touch with any of you, who know a lot about Gelders horses and/ or are still involved with them in the USA and Canada (or anywhere else).
I will introduce myself first. My name is Liz and I am from the Netherlands. I live in Arizona since July 2018, and will stay here for the next 4 years bc of my husbands job (Airforce). As a hobby and passion I have been doing photoshoots of Gelders horses a lot the past years. Also I did a big project with interviews and photoshoots last year, as sort of a ‘tribute’ to the classical Dutch Warmblood. I visited many breeders of Gelders horses in the Netherlands for this project, which was amazing. They can all be seen on my website and FB page. www.lvws.jimdo.com.

Now that I am in the USA, I am trying to find out everything about the Gelders horses here. Some really important Gelders stallions were exported from the Netherlands in the past and there is still quite some offspring of them living here, I found out. I find it important that the Gelders horse doesn’t disappear due to ongoing modernization and for that reason I promote them and also try to find out if there is still frozen semen available or if there are stallions that carry valuable bloodlines.

I have a FB page called ‘Krachtpatsers’ which I set up after my project last year. It turned out into a platform for people who love the Classical Dutch Warmbloods, of course the Gelders horses but also the classical type of Groningers and Harness horses. I would love to find more Gelders horses here and maybe even visit them for photoshoots and interviews. (Just to be clear: this is not advertising because I don’t do this as a job, it is a hobby, volunteer work :))

Ik heb een merrie v. Ijsselmeer Ikepono
Olivier dekt ook nog volgens mij… Sandor Jane is gecastreerd, Taxateur en Zooloog zijn dood… Wynton staat ter dekking in Canada

I owned a stallion with a Gelderlander dam and fell madly in love with him. What an amazing temperament! Olivier and Parcival both have Gelders blood, and Ijsellmeer Ikpono at Lio Lomas Dutch Warmbloods in California is also Gelders. I have been thinking about Alexandro P myself, but I’d love to know more about how amateur friendly his foals are before breeding to him, since he is not domestic. Global Equine Sires also has his semen.
