Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew any information about Gemini. I am doing a 4-H presentation about equine cloning, and wanted to talk about Gem Twist’s clone. I found a lot of articles from 2008/2009, but I was hoping someone would have some more recent information, like how he’s doing, if the Chapot’s are planning on competing him or just for breeding purposes, etc. Thank you so much, any recent information is greatly appreciated!
I believe, don’t quote me on it, clones are only allowed to be used for breeding purposes. I do not think they are able to compete. He should have his own website with updates if you google him.
I don’t think there are any rules either USEF or FEI that prevent clones from competing.

I believe the FEI originally had a ban on it, but clones are now permitted:

I think this is problem–he doesn’t have a website, and there has been very little information published about Gemini after the first couple of years. Googling him gets mostly old news or ads from the Cryozootech people.
There is no restriction upon cloned horses competing under FEI rules. The majority of clones are very young and many of their owners chose to focus on their breeding ability as soon as they are able. My clone, Romulus 17 turned 4 years this January, he has been backed and broken. He can do walk, trot and canter under saddle very nicely. We are due to turn him away this Summer for a break before he comes up from the field in the Autumn for re breaking and continuance of his career. If you send me a PM, you are welcome to visit him for the purposes of assisting with your project.
USEF does not restrict the competing of clones. Nor really any horse/anyone save banned/disciplined horses/people. You pay, you play.
There was a thread in the Breeding forum. Not sure how recent it is though.

His height is 1,58 metres. Was Gem Twist also 1,58 m.?

If my math is correct, 1.58m is 15.2?
In that case, no. Gem was at least 16.2.
I believe Practical Horseman had an article about clones and Gemini in particular in 2012 or so?

I remember that article although not the date. I do seem to remember Frank Chapot saying they planned to breed but not compete the clone. And I don’t believe Gem was at least 16.2 as Alterrain stated, I think he was more like 16.1. Gem’s sire Good Twist was even smaller, 15.2or 15.3.
