Gemini Twist colt born tonight: photos added

Hi everybody,
I’m posting on behalf of the owners and am happy to announce that the first foal by Gemini Twist (Gem Twist clone) was born this evening. The owners are the mom and daughter team Deborah McKenna and Laura McKenna.

They own the mare, the 14 yr old Tb showjumping mare “Otherwise Engaged” aka Freda. This is Freda’s first foal.

Their story is kind of cool - Debbie trained with Frank Chapot in the late 70’s and 80’s and was the owner of Hopper who was ridden primarily by Greg Best out of the Chapot’s barn. Debbie’s daughter Laura rode with Laura Chapot for the past several years. I am fuzzy on details but I believe that Hopper may have carried some of the same bloodlines as Gem and by breeding Gemini to Freda, they were combining the bloodlines of their two beloved horses.

The colt who they’ve named “The Proposal” barn name Sitka is stunning. He is STRONG!! He was coordinating his legs at 10 minutes old and attempting to stand by 15 minutes. He is gorgeous as well - legs are correct and his neck is incredibly strong. Freda did great through the birth and is a terrific mom.

Here they all are:

And here he is the first time he stood - he needed minimal help and stood strong for a long time!

He’s tall! I’m 5’10 and our legs were almost the same length:

I have to really give major props to the barn managers of Park Avenue Stables, in Perkasie PA - Genna Weissner and Amanda Marano who have been taking care of Freda and preparing for this birth, they did great.

There will be much better pics of him to come but he is definitely a very very strong and vigorous colt - very cool!

Congrats! He’s beautiful!!

Thats cool! I am not one for thinking cloning is a good idea, except perhaps in cases like this. Will be interesting to see where his offspring go.

WHAT! He doesn’t have two heads, knees that face his tail, and a swayback? How can this be?

Is he gray?

Congratulations to the sire and dam and their owners, and best wishes for the foal.

How wonderful and interesting! Thanks for sharing and I know I’ll look forward to news as he grows up!

Wonderful News!

That’s great news! Thanks so much for the information and sharing the pictures. Can’t wait to see him grow up

Big Congrats!!! Looking forward to more pics.

Some updated photos of Sitka - he is hilarious. One of the friendliest and most outgoing foals I’ve seen. His conformation is very correct for a new foal and he jumps everything in his path with his knees up and square. Super nice colt! He is from a very nice mare but if this is indicative of what Gemini is going to help put on the ground, I am impressed. I have no interest in Gemini (or Sitka) other than the fact that I delivered him, but he is a very impressive colt!
