General feedback on new site HERE

I’m not seeing a greenish grey background. I’m seeing expanses of white, maybe not quite as white as before, but still white. Only the box with the poster’s name and the quote box are not white.

I see a very light grey behind the active posting parts.

Hey @Moderator 1, how do the “themes” work that we have in our profile? (Oh, where’d it go? Wasn’t it a dropdown on the User Settings>Account page?) Maybe we could use that with a “dark” option and a green and cream option? People could select what works best for them?

Yes, this isn’t the old BB software. But, in the few weeks we’ve been live, the IT staff has been fantastic with listening to feedback on both things that don’t work as well as things we all didn’t like the way it worked and have made changes to address issues.

IMO, this BB software also has a few features that I quite like over the previous software…

With a change this substantial, always best to give it a chance before dumping the entire site in the trash.

I had to change browsers on my phone so i could login. Edit works and posting logging out & in are fast from phone. Might need to upload a different browser,made a big difference for me.
Site isn’t real mobile friendly can’t see who posted last on threads. Part of the site isn’t visible on phone don’t like that. So don’t use phone other then when having a sleepless night,which is most nights recently.

This version is sooooooo much more mobile friendly than the last one

People keep alluding to some display issues with some iDevices, but I dunno if anyone has helped out the dev team by posting or email screenshots. Tough to troubleshoot when no one will provide some pics of the issues? Maybe you can help?

No problem glad i could help,i know the frustration of it, i couldn’t log in for 2 1/2 days from phone.
Only problem is changing my password. I’ve done this going on 5 times and dumb thing goes back to old password. Get 2 or 3 logins on new password then poof it’s back to old one.

I’m the person you labeled as “pre-school” in computer skills - I was not able to get an avatar pic to work - ? Screen shot /pic ?

I am posting on a thread - like many others - where members are suppose to report issues with the new site …If I could help I WOULD !

just saying many Coth participants visit from iPhones during their days activities - if the view is littered with ads - Smartpak … and they can’t not see the full ‘offering’ … last poster on a thread …perhaps they will find other sites to entertain their ’ break time’ .

The Ads on the phone are annoying they do take up too much space. Site isn’t mobile friendly i’ve pretty much quit using my phone for this site. Even after switching browsers half the site isn’t visible from phone so pretty limited on what you see. Can’t see who posted last can’t see who started post. And my phone works fine on other sites, and don’t have the issues that i have here. I realise the Ads pay for the free site that’s fine, they aren’t nearly as annoying from a desktop and don’t take up as much space. But i do see why posters are complaining about the site when on a phone.

When your on a laptop or desktop of course it seems good yeah it is good from a regular computer. But from a phone it far from great. I do have to say old site was much more mobile friendly then this new one.

From my desktop site has made huge improvements has new features that are wonderful to have.And yes Moderator 1 has been great at keeping us up to date on what’s going on. I appreciate all that has gone into switching over to a new platform,and fixing glitches. Just putting in my 2 cents worth.

I can not really comment on how the forum works on any device except a computer. I live in the dark ages and the only place I get online is here at work.

Trub, if you want to sneak a peek at the mobile view, just make your window narrower. It’ll pop over to the mobile layout when your window is ~ 730 ish pixels wide

(Which, actually…what’s the screen size on the new iPhones? Wider, right? They’re not triggering the mobile layout, I bet…)

![]( also have to say the ads are too big on mobile, especially with how many there are. The page just jumps around and since take up the entire screen. I do like that they no longer cover sections of text on replies. But their size is a bit excessive.

This screenshot for instance, taken on my samsung galaxy s7 active, shows it is huge, it clearly is taking up the whole screen and then some, if I scroll down further the ads continues on a little bit, and it wasn’t the only whole screen taking ad on the page.

Normally I don’t mind ads, but I do object to them being in the center of threads. As a paying Premium Member, I would have hoped to have seen the thread ads disappear for me, leaving just the side ads. That would be the nicest perk of all. And it is within keeping with other forums that I pay a membership - ads are only found on the site when viewed for free. Not when viewed by paying members.

Somewhere on one of these threads about the new forum it is mentioned that there will no longer be premium members.

…and that premium membership fees will be refunded.

I’ve long said that when we got a real mobile platform, I would pony up for premium. No can do, so I subscribed to the magazine instead to support the Chronicle. :yes:

okay, how do you see people’s started threads and recent posts when you are creepin’ their profiles? not loving that you can’t do your research anymore… unless i’m missing something? Which is entirely possible - I’m that person in the family that gives up 2s into a search if it’s not directly in front of my face.

I still miss having the actual page number buttons on the top - I hate having to click the arrow until I get to page 8 or move everything (usually a cat! you KNOW upsetting Kats On Keyboards is Bad Karma!!) to type… I’d love to have that feature back…

I also don’t love the ads on mobile; my god, they’re bigger than the posts - I do more scrolling through the posts to get away from the ads and IMHO it punctures the ‘immersion’ of being in the thread: I like that steady stream of information and don’t want to get sidetracked, thanks! I would be okay with ads elsewhere, like up top and on the bottom of the page, but please no more ads in the center of the thread about Equine Insurance when I’m reading about a poster who just lost her best friend! TACK-Y!

And… and… I haven’t heard feedback on whether you guys are considering bringing back the ‘Related Threads’ on the bottom of the page? Puuuhleaaaase? I’ll be good this year!

Re: the page numbers: enter a number in the box and hit enter. Does that work?

Related threads are a no go on this version of the software, but COTH has submitted a request to vBulletin for that to be brought back.

ahh - there’s the stuff I’m looking for. Okay. I’m glad that function still exists but why can’t it be front and center like last time? Petition to move that back to Obviousville, pls?

Well, that’s the box I’m talking about - that ribbon – it’s cumbersome to have to shift/move everything, find the tiny box, type the number - and you know when I’m on COTH it’s dark and really late and I probably should be in bed and finding the number 7 on my keyboard is like trying to find your cat when it’s time to go to the vet… I miss having the numbered page buttons up top/bottom - like at the top of the thread - where I can just click and go instead of having to click, type in a number, etc. I’m bad about efficiency like that. I don’t care for the ribbon, but I appreciate that it’s there. Kind of like fine china - I don’t want to use it but it’s nice to look at.

Also, half the time that box/ribbon is really slow - meaning I highlight “1” to delete it and type in page 8, and it unselects itself (rude!) – or, I go to backspace/delete the 1 and it hasn’t loaded completely yet and I backspace myself back a page on the browser. I know it’s not my computer because it’s happened to me on several different computers, all with varying types of (good) connection.

Speaking of numbered pages - it’d be really nice to have page numbers back when on the forum - and also, can we petition to bring back who started the thread (aka thread author) on the mobile format? There are some posters I just will not click a thread of - it’s part of my PPE of a thread – and I’d rather not be tricked into opening something I know is a waste of my time.
