At the verrrrry bottom, on the right of the footer banner, is Go To Top.
Very hard to read on my iPad - since posts go all the way across the page I can’t zoom in on a post and still be able to see all of it. Surely someone there knows that this tiny little condensed font is not legible against all the white. Also I really only browse the forums, but went wandering up to the menu and had to do way too much to get back to the forums. I liked the navigation things on the bottom of the old pages. I liked that there were many ways to get where I wanted to go on the old pages. This really isn’t working at all for me.
I like the clean layout and the number of tools under the hood to help customize the user experience. Looks great on iPhone Safari. There’s a lot of extra whitespace up at the top, though, when viewed in browser - looks like the equivalent of a couple of line breaks in between the thread title and the Subscribe button. I’d like to see that collapsed. Otherwise forum content appears halfway down the page.
More threads per page, please. I found a way to control the number of posts shown per page within a thread, but not to change the number of threads displayed in a forum.
Also, return the ability to jump right to a certain page in a thread from the forum index. It’s pretty annoying to have to open the thread first and then go to the page you want.
For supposedly being mobile-friendly, I sure can’t do a lot from my iPhone. Can’t edit the avatar, can’t adjust the screen colors, and when I select “Page 2” it takes me back to the original post and I have to scroll back down.
I miss being able to click to a different section of the forum from the bottom of the page. Now I just see the option to to go to the previous page, or another page of the thread I’m on. I’d like to be able to hop between, say, H/J and Off Course again. Also a bit of a bummer that while the signature and join date info carried over, but not the previous format’s Ignore List.
ETA: So very delighted that editing is back. But I also am not fond of only seeing the top 10 threads on any given forum. I can change preferences for the number of replies per page, but do not see any option to add more topics per forum page.
It’s unfriendly on all levels •
I am using on my phone and don’t see how I can log off once logged on. Anyone know where to do this?
My main requests, which I’ve seen on this thread and in the thread in OT, would be a different background color (light grey would be fine! Anything but white!) and to have more threads per page in each section. 10 is just not even close to enough! I hate switching pages for threads but far more than 10 threads get posted to every day, and I’m often just on once a day.
@vineyridge Thanks for the feedback. I’m first forwarding clear glitch/functionality issues to the developers, and I’m compiling a list of suggested tweaks that are more preference-based to make the site more enjoyable/user-friendly.
Visitor messages are messages that can be left on your profile if someone stops by. I don’t think there will be an issue with disabling the option overall if people don’t like them (I personally don’t see a real utility in them), but you can also choose not to enable them for your account via your account settings. If you do want to enable them, you can adjust who can see the messages via your Privacy settings.
That “go to top” link is buried down there if there’s only a couple of posts on a thread. I’ll make a note about getting that positioned better…although if there are only a few posts on a thread, it’s maybe easier to just scroll back to the top? I’ll make a note, and let’s play around with it.
I think I responded earlier you can go to the last page of a thread by clicking the triangular blue icons near the thread title and last poster, when your looking at the list of threads.
RockingHorse. There’s a menue bar that shows up at top of page. Click on that at bottom of that is the logout.
not mobile friendly site, no icon for quote no icon for edit no icon for likes.
@fordtraktor What version of IE were you using? We’ve identified compatibly issues with older versions. Thanks!
@vineyridge We appreciate the feedback. So, are you saying that if you open up a thread and you’re in the midst of reading it, and want to go to the last page, you don’t see how to do that? When a thread is open, there’s a gray bar at the top of the page that lets you select pages to jump to, either by inputing a page number or by clicking the arrows. Does that do what you’re looking to do?
I really don’t like the way things look. Its too white/bright and painful to look at. I have some eye issues, and I might have to stop coming here. I had to turn the brightness way down just to finish this post. I don’t have that problem anywhere else on the internet.
It does seem a little slower than before, too.
Use the three dots at the bottom right of each and every post to open a menu that offers all of this in the mobile version.
I agree, there’s too much white.
Take a look at the forum from the company that make this forum software.

I like the grey outer boarder background that they use. I think it’s easier on the eyes, and it makes the posts easier to read.
This might fall into “stupid human tricks” but I keep clicking the home link in the quick links to the left, but that’s the home button for the main COTH site. It’s a little confusing to me because there’s also the “home” forum link at the top of most pages.
But they’re very close geographically on my screen and “home” should mean the same thing? Perhaps the quick link version could be “Magazine Home” or “Chronicle Home” or “COTH Home”?
Is anyone else running into this, or is it just me?
HOLY COW. I LOVE that we now get a notification that we’ve been QUOTED.
How cool is that!!!
(But I do miss the page where I can see what’s been liked. I don’t think we can now see our likes in one place? It was here before: https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/profile.php?do=helpfulans)
@Simkie thanks, I have edit like &flag icons no quote icon shows up. No issues from desktop. Agree with others about too much white. Had to turn screen brightness way down. The brightest is headache producing.
