I’d imagine there is going to be a huge range. A lot of it will depend on whether or not the horse has the potential to move up through the levels and where you’re located. I’d guess you could easily be looking at something anywhere between $10k for something that is about done at T and in a less expensive area to at least several times that for something that has the potential to move up somewhere like Area II.

Also depends on what you mean by straight forward to ride.
In Area II…a younger horse with training miles, competitive and potential to go prelim no vet issues and fairly easy to ride is typically 25K+ I’ve seen several at 40K+ that were not over priced. I’ve known a few that were less but typically there was some issue (or most of the ones for less ere not as competitive without a very skilled ride)…or just a motivated to sell seller.
What BFNE said (although $25k for all that in my part of Area II is a bit on the low end).
I think in area 2 you could do 10-15K for closer to 10, small, not moving up to P, not uber fancy maybe off breed?)
OTOH I’ve seen some 5 yos represented as serious top prospects for over 50K.
If you are flexible on dressage, easy to ride, or maintenance, the price goes down.
When I bought my guy who was turning 8, I believe qualified to move up to prelim, had schooled advanced, finished on his dressage scores in the top few, I was finding most ads were $25k+ for similar quality horses.
My guy just happens to not be so easy, and really didn’t want to ever have to school x-country again in his life (despite enjoying it in competition when he got to gallop!) So I got him for far less, but 16.3 and good looking with super athleticism really did make $25k low for most horses I saw. I agree that you can find for a lot less by being adjustable on some of the qualities.
