The apologist’s #1 complaint is they wanted it tried in a court of law.
Wish granted.
What a sick dude GM is.

While your Bulls#*%*ing. 😂😂.
I’ll be in the corner watching the mental gymnastics from Carney and company.
$h!t just got real for those morons. All their mouth running is going to look reeeeeal bad in front of a judge.
I’m curious to see what the two Bobbys will do.
I wouldn’t be surprised if GM tries awful hard to liquidate his meager assets to get some quick cash and flee the country in the next 12 months, though there aren’t any gay-friendly non-extradition countries that I know of and he’d need to be somewhere cheap, yet modern.
What is it about George that these 50+ women find so appealing that they’ll excuse his behavior by saying that he “put a lot of USA riders on the map”??? I am truly mystified.
There was a time I revered the ground he walked on. I did buy Unrelenting. He alludes to certain behaviors in the book. There is no excuse or justification for him or any other, period.
It’s simply The Halo Effect. He produced winners at one point, has been around for decades, and is held in high regard by those who call the shots in the sport and who pay for the USET, ergo he is a good person. For some it was that and the fact that George is gay/bisexual and prominent/famous, so he can’t be criticized and is above reproach in all matters, and any criticism, complaints, or observations of negative behavior on his part are nothing more than jealousy and homophobia/bigotry, as one COTH user said time and again.
There are quite a few countries that don’t extradite to the U.S. Brazil is one. I know of an embezzler that went to the Dominican Republic, and won’t be sent back here either, too bad for his victims, and that restitution they won’t get. I’m sure there are many others that don’t extradite.
I think there are still a lot of people that blame the victims, and think they should ‘get over it’ or just keep quiet. In my opinion, there have been too many years of keeping quiet about abuse, and it’s past time that victims receive justice, either in the court, or other ways, like Safe Sport.
George is not well liked by the Brazilians. Rodrigo Pessoa is one who came out immediately to condemn pedos in the sport when George went down. Doda has already fired him once, and they still tell stories laughing at his temper tantrums. It’s a big country, but the monied horse elite are a small club, even when most are in Europe much of the time. And a lot of the younger guys have younger kids.
George has spent a good amount of time in Argentina, and he could probably retire there with what little he has left.
It’s hard to say. I audited a few clinics many years ago and found his behavior so appalling I couldn’t understand why people thought it was worth the humiliation. There are plenty of trainers out there who are excellent clinicians without the insults. However, there seems to be a tolerance for bad behavior among coaches – that if they yell, scream and insult, it’s because they are trying to make you better. It’s not restricted to equestrians. My kids had rowing coaches like that, too. For many people surviving George became a badge of honor. One of my trainers once cliniced with a BN Dressage Trainer and came back shaking her head and wondering how someone could make a living by insulting middle aged women – said she might as well have flushed $500 down the toilet because the experience was so dreadful.
Why do people believe that GM doesn’t have money? He’s always had money. He was able to go as an Olympic rider back when only rich amateurs could go. I haven’t seen any indication that all that inherited wealth and earned wealth (clinics etc.) have disappeared unless it all went to Swiss bank accounts. Of course he has money. What are you thinking? As far as moving overseas, lots of countries won’t extradite for a civil suit anyway so he probably has the entire world for choices.
George isnt rich rich, which is why he has for decades sold himself to the rich rich, whom he very much likes to be around. He cannot himself sustain the lifestyle he prefers, but it is certainly possible some rich rich people are still willing to fund him.
And of course we all know that status desperate hunter riders are still absolutely willing to jam wads of cash down his rust britches. Katie Prudent is just weeping about it. That dastardly safe sport!
One reason is because when his boyfriend left him (this is from his book, which I borrowed from the library, no way would I pay for it) he had to sell the Hunterdon farm and everything else he owned, including trophies and awards. No one sells their personal momentos unless they are desperate. His boyfriend was the source of the funds that had kept him financially afloat, not his family.
As for leaving the country, good luck with that. Americans are not free to roam due to our lousy management of the COVID virus, most countries are not allowing Americans to cross their borders .
Right before the ban came down, GM put his assets in a Revocable Trust - with himself as the Trustee - to protect himself from the (then probable) lawsuits that he now faces. The deed says “George H. Morris” transfers to “George Hayes Morris”. Seriously.
A lot of this is cognitive dissonance
I am a good person
I admire GM
I would not admire a bad person
GM must therefore be a good person
classic cognitive dissonance
Props to the person at COTH who chose the image of George Morris in the Jimmy Williams hat. I recognized it immediately and thought about how appropriate a choice that was.
Also an excellent reminder that no one else wants their picture taken in the hat.
Diane Carney, Robert Dover et al, have been banging on about GM’s inability to make a living and had started a “go fund me”. If GM was financially able to keep himself in the lifestyle he has been accustomed to, I doubt they would all be pleading his poverty. He is known for his ego and is of retirement age, so if he is wealthy it wouldn’t make sense for his friends to be begging on his behalf. Unless… they knew that some big legal bills were imminent.
Did anything ever develop re: the threat George was said by some to have made about naming names if he got taken down? Something along the lines of “if they come after me I’ll bring this whole sport down”?
Empty words, or is he keeping quiet until all the legal maneuverings are over with?
That’s not forever, and I could see some rich showjumper paying him for training at their home base in Europe. Stranger things have happened, people still pay Bikram for yoga training
