Most people in Europe have way way way better people to train with.
And that’s why they do.
American hunter riders are really the only people clamoring to ride with George

Do you really believe they have no better option than an 85yr old accused child rapist? He’s banned by the FEI as well and his tenure as Chef d’equipe for the U.S.wasn’t that impressive.
Look at Roman Polansky or Bikram. There are clearly better options but peope still hire them
I think times have changed, but we’ll see. Polanski went into exile while he was young. GM is 85 and is just not that important to anyone except the US hunter crowd, especially since he has been banned by both USEF and the FEI.
Ugh I tried to read that book, I still haven’t finished it. It was all just a bunch of self-back-patting, “look how awesome I am”, mixed in with some pretty sketchy sounding stuff. Maybe it gets better, but I couldn’t get past the first, like, third.
I would think traveling outside of the US would be extremely challenging right now, for reasons completely independent of Safesport or litigation. This is probably a very hard time to flee the US.
Assets in a revocable trust are not protected from creditors.
I’m an amateur at estate planning, but I think the thing a revocable trust does for anyone is have assets transfer without probate. While you are alive, they are still within your control and therefore things creditors can tap. Now an irrevocable trust is a different animal.
That’s what is baffling. I’m at a loss as to why he would do it in the first place, especially since he retained a known-to-be-competent estate handling firm to do it for him. He’s been trying to liquidate what little assets he has since - almost to the day - SafeSport came into existence in early 2012, so you’d think he would have, by now, formulated a sensible long-term plan to achieve a position where he could easily walk away from any trouble.
^^^^. This. And, there are better people in this country, too.
Nobody ever clearly substantiated that GM was making threats and I think it’s just a rumor that came from the Wellington Glory Hole crowd, though it’s certainly plausible. If anyone has enough dirt to spill on the BTS drama in that sport and with the USET and the drug-fueled success-hungry people that have been fixtures in that world, it’s him. If he does know anything and is willing to spill the beans, it’s likely going to be about quid-pro-quo arrangements for team placements, judge rigging to improve scores and sale prices, performance cocktails, and other assorted dirty deeds that have long been spoken of in hushed voices. Much of it probably isn’t going to be seriously damaging at this point, unless he’s got a lot of recent secrets to expose, but it certainly would be embarrassing to some people and their legacies.
Worst case scenario is that he’s an Epstein-like scumbag who has engaged in dirty deeds for decades, like the aforementioned and blackmailed people into keeping him around and on payroll with “Oh, I know things about you that you wouldn’t want getting out…” threats and he used that power to get financial support for his business, where he surrounded himself - and it’s been said that he had people actively helping him to cast a wide net - with as many young boys as he could get away with and abused/exploited said boys in exchange for “hanging around the big names” and possible team placement, if they got lucky.
I noticed today that Denny Emerson has “liked” the Athletes for Equity in Sport facebook page.
just interesting, ya know…
He relied on his stature in the horse world to prevent all this. He’s arrogant and thought he was untouchable. That’s why he didn’t do the “sensible long-term plan.”
Yuck. Just saying…
It will be a great day when the members of the old boys club finally implode and disappear for good. Of course the day will come a little sooner if people will stop making excuses for their abusive behavior.
I think at this point, we know that if the USEF or FEI said “Riders should breathe more during their rides.”, he would give a like to “The Freedom For Equestrians To Breathe Less Official Facebook Page”. He’s been on an Anti-Establishment kick for ages now, has he not?
Yet another sign of the spreading rot in our empire, no?
quelle surprise…
There were parts of the book that I found utterly engaging, but that was mostly because I was getting the historical context for a bunch of stuff I lived through or people I knew in the New-York-centric h/j scene back when, but omg it’s a heck of a thick book for somebody with less reason to care. I’m surprised it was published as it was. (No idea if it sold particularly well or anything; I paid a buck at the library sale for my copy.)
From what I read and what I know of him I think it is a pretty accurate self-portrayal. (I think a lot of people can’t get past the first third of his personality in person, either!)
A woman commented on the COTH FB post about the lawsuits that GM infected his victims with HIV and one of those victims was her boyfriend, who later died from AIDS complications. I’ve never heard of him being HIV+ and he was in his 40’s and early 50’s in the 80’s, when it was running rampant in the Gay community, which he had definitely been a part of, by his own literary admission. Her apparent age and background fits with being the right age at the right time and place to have been with a man who could been abused by GM as a boy or young man in the 70’s and/or possibly the 80’s. Yeesh!
If that’s true then that makes GM one of the fortunate few survivors among people who were infected with HIV in the 80s.
I doesn’t get better.
I remember that it was poorly edited and contained an inordinate number of exclamation points, which made it look as if it was written by a teenage girl.
I’ll be glad when the photo of GM rotates off of the COTH website. It’s creepy.
