Georgina Bloomberg - Saturday's 4* GP at PBIEC

Did anyone see or catch why Georgina was eliminated in the 4* class at PBIEC Saturday night? We could not tell on the livestream, and there was no commentary to clarify. They sounded the buzzer to start the clock, she started to go, the buzzer sounded again (and frankly it sounded almost like an accident and no announcement was made), she kept going, jumped maybe half the course (clear), and then they buzzed her out and stopped her and she was eliminated. There was a short discussion between her and an official in the ring, and that was it.

I did not see it.

From the description above, it sounds like maybe a tack issue or possibly a blood issue. Maybe the horse bit his tongue or something and the official was telling her he had blood on his mouth. That is strictly a guess.

Or if they had toned her the second time to hold up and she started anyway, that is cause for elimination. There is not much leeway in the FEI classes.

That may well be the explanation, there was a short series of tones (maybe 3, almost like someone honking a horn) after she had been cleared to start, while she was on the way to the first jump, but no announcement to hold up, and she looked confused and then kept going.

A series of tones usually means to hold up. Maybe a jump blew over or there was a problem with the timers or something. And the rules are pretty clear that if you start before receiving the official signal, you’re eliminated. It’s unfortunate if there was a miscommunication or mix up of some kind.
