Gerhard Schickedanz Has Passed Away

A great horseman who will be dearly missed!
With sadness, the Schickedanz family wishes to inform our friends, associates, and acquaintances, of the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
After struggling with cancer for the past several months, Gerhard was relieved of his earthly struggles on Friday afternoon.

It is with sadness that I read this. Gerhard was ever the gentleman and very much a consummate horseman. It was always a pleasure to work with him and a delight to watch him inspect and evaluate horses.

He will be missed by many and particularly his family.

He will be missed. What a great and knowledgeable horseman.

Oh, the end of a wonderful era and part of my life. Without Gerhard Schickedanz, I would not be where I am in my horse business. My foundation Trakehner mare, Helena, came from him. Her grand daughters are my most prized mares yet today, 34 years later.
I hope he is up there chatting with his old friend Bob Baird… they will long be remembered.
A consummate gentleman and horseman.

That is a huge loss for the horse world :frowning: Condolences to all who were near him.

:frowning: I am so sorry. There are just not words to convey not only how important he was to the Trakehner breed here in North America, but also what a funny, good man he was. I’m so glad he made it to the last ATA Convention in November, we will miss him and his knowledge.

Sad news indeed. Canada, and the horse world has lost a great one.

Definitely the end of an era… I remember him calling me to give me a hard time for importing Trakehner horses from his favorite farm in Germany. Herr Schickedanz was instrumental in getting Trakehners established in North America and continued to be a valuable supporter of the breed for many, many years.

Godspeed, Herr Schickedanz!

My condolances to Elma, Charlotte, Tom and all the rest of his family. He was a true friend for many years, and I will miss him greatly. I’m sure Dr. Baird has his arms around him now.

Rest In Peace

Rest in peace to a great horseman who brought us Abiza, Abdullah and top bloodlines. Your legacy will live on through the decendents of Abiza and Abdullah. My deepest condolence to the Schickdanz family.
