German Horse Center

does anyone have experience using the German Horse Center for purchasing a dressage horse? i’d be interested to hear if folks think they are good/bad reputable, etc.

thanks!

I do not have direct experience with them, but a friend did purchase a jumper through them. I will say everything has worked out just like they said it would. For purchasing a horse off the internet, site unseen, I am thoroughly impressed. They made it easy for her, and while not inexpensive, they seem to be very upfront about everything.

Also, the horse is just as described, and he is lovely. She is thrilled overall, her only complaint throughout the whole transaction was the shipping company here in the US. Honestly, I was shocked it went so well!!

wow i didn’t realize you can just purchase over the internet! their web site offers all kinds of in person services so i assumed everyone who bought from them flew over to have one of their agents show them horses in person. i don’t think i’d be brave enough to do the entire transaction over the internet but it’s good to hear that your friend’s experience has been good.

Yep, she wanted a nice horse, very quickly. I believe the whole transaction took less than a month! And, while I’m not that brave, I am jealous of her horse!

I had the opposite experience with them. We bought a horse as a “safe amateur horse” for a lady coming back from major ankle surgeries (ie replacement). We were very clear and explicit about needing an honest horse for this person. Trainer had imported from them before (1 other horse) so we used the same contact, Stefan Kreutz. The horse came and was literally the spookiest animal we’d ever seen. Scared of his own shadow, constantly spooking (over and over again) at cones and poles. Was a very dirty stopper. We tried everything - sending the horse to another trainer that rode for Rich Fellers and George Morris, went back to the beginning, etc. After contacting Stefan, his reply was to take the horse off his HorseLogic supplement…seriously. He said that’s why he was so anxious. He also said he thought the horse had lost his joy because he was a 1.30 horse (a couple of times in Europe) doing the 1.10s in America (which they sold him exactly for)…Honestly, the feedback was so appalling that I couldn’t believe it was a horse person speaking to me. They refused to take the horse back (I offered to ship him back at my own expense), and left us high and dry. I am more than happy to share all communication I have (email chains etc). because it was such a ghastly and unprofessional experience, and I’m still in shock at GHC’s behavior.
