German Oldenburg Breeders....what does this mean?

When a horse has the OLD designation after it’s name? (a stallion fwiw)

Donella, if it is in the pedigree, it means that the horse listed has Oldenburg as it’s actual registration. For example, my Contessa is an Oldenburg, but her mother has KWPN after her name on my mares papers. Mare was approved Oldenburg, but actual registration is KWPN.

Thanks, Holly, it is after the name of a stallion I am interested in. His name and then OLD. Sounds something like the FRH designation but for GOV horses only? I am not sure I got the whole drift of it from reading the website.

Donella, yes, the OLD after their name means that they have had high success in sport (eg, Augustin OLD).

Yes same as FRH and they have WE for the Ponies

Sort of OT, but do the horses with prefixes and suffixes like FRH and OLD NRW and receive sponsorship funds from the Verbands involved?

The designation is given to horses selected by the board of Verein zur Förderung des Oldenburger Pferdesports e.V., which is a separate organization from the Oldenburg Verband. Among the board members, though, are Wilhelm Weerda (president of the Verband), Katrin Burger (Vice-Breeding Director), well known stallion owner Paul Schockemoehle, as well as other noted breeders.

The horses do not necessarily have to be in high performance sport, but they do have to be considered to be good “ambassadors” for the registry. My understanding is there is some monetary award given along with the title, but I am not sure of the amount.

Basically, it means the horse was/is recognized as a good representative of the breed.

Trakehners have a similar thing - so Axis TSF or Karascanda TSF are in part supported by an organization separate from, but obviously closely allied to, the Verband. I believe they are nominated for designation by their owners, rather than having the support imposed upon them (for want of a better way of putting it).

OLD and FRH are a non profit organisation and have nothing to do with the Verband. They support sport on horses by the specific breed the are related to. Relation is not organisational but “in mind”.
For FRH the support goes as far as (co-)ownership.
Sometimes I guess it is also a tax thing. Person A gives money to this organisation (tax deductable maybe) and than a specific horse is bought.
