German Riding Pony Stallion

I thought that I would start looking for a GRP stallion for my mare. I’m looking for a stallion who will add a little more neck and length to the forearm. I don’t want pure bred Welsh, as she is Welsh herself. I am not big on color (lots of white, palomino, buckskin and so forth), but if the stallion is right, it doesn’t matter. Attached is a picture of the mare.
Thank you!

If you are on Facebook, you may want to look at this page. German Riding Ponies - North America

They are starting to compile a list of the available GRP stallions in North America.

What is your intended use? Dressage? I have considered breeding my Welsh Cob x Morgan mare to Belafonte d’Avalon and actually had booked an Arab mare to him but she was old before breeding season. You are aware of the Welsh Cob crosses to Makuba right? Some of those turned out rather nice though I’m guessing he’s getting up there in years. As for the first mare mentioned she gave me such a nice filly by my purebred Welsh Cob stallion that I ended up breeding her back to him this year. I’ve seen some local stock by FS Daily Hero that have turned out very nice though aren’t having much done with them. The offspring were out of a GRP mare though.

Would you be open to a British Riding Pony stallion? Rotherwood Bo Jangle is, IMO, a lovely stallion and crosses very well with Welsh mares. I have had the opportunity to work with several of his foals and have really enjoyed it. They’re smart, athletic and very lovable. Here’s his website http://arnabyfarm.com/stallions/bo.html and a picture of a welsh cross filly that I wouldn’t mind pony-napping  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=555267464486600&set=pb.369353563077992.-2207520000.1379092988.&type=3&theater . Here’s a picture of her moving https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=595345053830147&set=a.271104126254243.69683.100000639736130&type=3&theater.

You might talk to Diana at Foxcreek Farm. She is very knowledgeable and has a LOT to choose from. Heck, I’d bet she’d let you visit; there are plenty of ponies to see!!

PS Your mare is lovely, she has a lot of substance! We bred a few Welsh and Welsh crosses but have narrowed to just Connemara and Connemara crosses. I’ve kind of lost my taste for the really dainty, fine boned ponies; I have to say, I wouldn’t kick your mare out of my barn

Thank you all for your suggestions! Very helpful! GAeventer - Thank you  I trained a few Connemaras, and LOVED them! This mare is one that I bred and thought was the best out of 2 other full sisters.

Does anyone know of Adnois and his foals? He is very nice!

I bred my WB mare to Manchester City - who is a imported GRP - and the resulting filly is lovely - everything i ever dreamed off!

I know he has been bred to some really nice mares this year so you would be in good company

you can find him on facebook and also on teh GRP NA page

here is a pic of my filly Luna:

There are several really nice GRPs around- you can find many of them on the GRP NA page. If you pm me i can add you to the group and you can post there

OP, if you go to this link and scroll to the bottom, you can see a list of pony stallions approved for Weser-Ems breeding. Click on the names to see photos and details.

There are other pony stallions approved for Weser-Ems breeding that were not activated last year - such as Mardi Gras (although he is a palomino Welsh pony stallion, so would not meet your criteria). As mentioned above, Foxcreek also has some very nice pony stallions.

Thank you!!1 Downyonder - no link showed up. Is it the FB one?

mbm - your filly is lovely!!! Once I am approved to the group, Ill look for him
Thank you!

Beautiful mare!

I have bred three very nice foals by Popeye. I tried Golden State frozen this year, but my mare didn’t take. I may try him again next year, but there are several more GRP’s I am interested in. Take a look at Belafonte d’Avalon , Burberry, Highlife’s Bulgari Boy, and Hilken’s Go For Gold.

Unfortunately for KeaLea - she was the only one who didn’t get a Goldi pregnancy :frowning: but hopefully next year. Golden State is available and depending on if you want some jumping ability then Nuno (Bundeschampion 2012 and 2013 in jumping) is also importing on the same flight in 2 weeks with Golden State

Please take a look at my stallion, Burberry. He is producing foals with beautiful necks and toplinesbas well as a modern, leggy type. He is a great all around pony and i would love to answer any questions you have.

I’m kinda biased because I am totally in love with him, but I think Belafonte D’Avalon is THE best sport pony out there.

“Unfortunately for KeaLea - she was the only one who didn’t get a Goldi pregnancy”
No, she isn’t! The mare I bred to Golden State didn’t take either, so she isn’t alone unfortunately!
Will try again next year, but only have one dose left.
Hopefully having an earlier start will help.
I have foals by Benno’s Dream, Ridley, Popeye and Bodyguard. The one’s that added the most neck are Benno and Ridley. Both on Welsh mares.
I love the foals from all of them, all are very athletic and have wonderful dispositions.

oh bummer- Judy didn’t tell me - she said everyone but one…
I have 10 more doses for next year.

That’s too bad :(. I thought I read on your facebook page that you had a pregnancy. I was looking forward to seeing a Golden State foal in the area.

I will definitely try again, hopefully in early spring. I’ve had bad luck this year with breeding in general, fortunately one mare is pregnant (but it took a few tries and some creativity on my vets part). I’ve also had some major vet bills, and am planning on moving my farm. So everything is a little up in the air for me.

I have one pregnancy for a 2014 foal, just not the Golden State one. :frowning:
I have a Schroeder due late in the season. This is a mare that I have been trying to breed for three years. Two years with one stallion, then switched to Schroeder this year and took first try, go figure, lol. This will be an oversize pony.
A bit off topic but can a mare and stallion just not be compatible?
I used it on another mare and she took first try. Just curious! I was starting to think there was something up with my first mare.
I will start earlier next year with the Golden state, and May have to take Honeylips up on the additional doses if still available.

I’m another fan of Belafonte D’Avalon. The colt I had by him this year went high Silver at the RPSI inspection and would probably have scored even better if he’d managed to trot a little more instead of having so much fun. His disposition is what truly impressed me however and his new owner is absolutely raving about his trainability. I anticipate breeding two mares to him next spring and will keep fingers crossed as I’d like a filly to keep for myself.
