Getting cat pee out of carpet?

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, but any tricks? House guests this weekend. Found surprise in unused room.

Cats are fine, I know the drill there. Just need help with the smell! Have cleaned with various cat pee removers, but still stinks. About to just pull the carpet and pad (planned on replacing it anyway) but would prefer to not have to go that route on such tight timeline.

This is the only regimen I have ever tried that I think actually works…

Odoban. Seriously amazing stuff. Not sure on carpet but it does kill odor on anything I’ve used it on.

oboban - let it dry then cover with baking soda and let it sit for a while. Vacuum up and repeat as needed.

I don’t know that there is much you can do by this weekend as it is sold online but my two go to products are Cat Odor Eliminator or Furry Freshness. There are some good carpet cleaning detergenys for pets if you have a carpet cleaner. You could use that to get you through until one of the above products arrives.

I actually used the cat odor eliminator stuff, and the “pet” carpet cleaner solution, in my “pet” carpet cleaner. Smelled good for the first day or so, but then WHOA BOY. Super ammonia-y. I think if we could wait for it to all off gas we might be okay, but getting that spot wet sure made it … potent. :dead:

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Based on how it smells when I get home tonight, it might just be pulling the carpet and using Killz on the subfloor. Sent Mr. S to the hardware store for supplies, so we will see!

(Remind me why I have indoor cats and carpet again? I miss my hard wood floors :()

I used natures miracle when Rosemary mistook the formal dining room for the litter box. I poured it on to SOAK the carpet, pad and flooring underneath. Left it for 30 min then sopped it up by standing on a towel.

Odor-Ban

Gave up. Pulled those two corners, cut out the smelly carpet and mat and just put down Killz. Ah, the smell of oil based paint

Sounds like odoban is the favorite, so will snag some from Amazon to have on hand.

You can get it at Home Depot or Walmart. I used it forever on my horse laundry but don’t use it for anything else as it just wasn’t effective enough.
