The search function is really strange. I agree with the OP. I see no harm done.
I am at the aging out stage. I welcome the show up years (like GS has a ball game and all I have to do is show up!) vs the do it all the hard way myself stuff.

OP, I totally get it. Not selfish of you at all. I’m 35, with a 3 yo son, and my horse (who lives at home with me, and a mini donkey) just turned 18 but isn’t slowing down yet. I have said many times to my husband that in hindsight, I wish I had bought an older teens horse when I bought in 2011, that would be ready tor etire by now. Juggling full time work, my family, and trying to ride competitively is like the jack of all trades and the master of none. I feel guilt about not having enough family time, spening so much $$ on MY hobby, and feeling guilty about not riding my guy enough. He’s not ready to retire, but old enough that I worry any long term break would be hard to bring him back from.
Anyways, sorry to bring my own drama into your thread, but just commiserating. Take some time off and focus on you and your family. You can always go back into horses later when the timing is better.
funny, I used to scoff at the idea of taking time away from horses and coming back as re-riders; turns out the joke’s on me.
