Getting permission to join a mock hunt as a guest

Hi,

New to hunting and would love to give it a try to see if my horse would enjoy it. She’s an eventer, so I think she would, but you never know!

My local hunt club is having a mock hunt and allows guests to attend. However, a guest participant must get permission from the Masters to join.

Is there some sort of protocol that should be followed when asking to join a hunt as a guest? I just don’t want to step on any toes!

We’re just looking to ride third field.

Generally you call the Secretary and the Secretary then relays to the Master. Some smaller hunts the Master is the Secretary and so you just call the him/her.

Did you find out about the mock hunt through a flyer, or was it word of mouth? Do you know any members of the hunt? They could give you an idea of what would be most appropriate for your hunt.

Thanks so much for your help. I did contact the secretary and it turns out they accidentally left the Master’s contact info off their webpage. I heard from the Master and did get permission to join the hunt, so I’m quite excited.

I will for sure report back, I’m a bit nervous but very excited also. It turns out this hunt will only have two fields so I’m thinking of going first if they will let me since I saw pictures from the venue and there is nothing overly challenging.

The weather is supposed to be nice and this ranch only opens up for the hunts a couple of times a year, so this will be special.
