Sad news. https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac…way-dies-at-21
I’m so sorry to hear this. He was a wonderful racehorse and a superb sire.

heartbroken . . . one of my all time favorites . . .
Massive loss.
No
What an incredible loss. So sorry for all of his connections. I hold him in such high esteem.
Godspeed.
I feel blessed to have lived through his legacy. Hate to hear that he’s gone.
Very sad news He was the sire of one of my favorite fillies that I worked with. She was a sweet little miss sassy pants, and I adored her. He really stamped his progeny.
Such a colossal loss.
His battle to the wire with Tiznow is one of my all time favorites races.
RIP Giant
I love that head shot in the article. “Iron Horse” indeed. He was the Frank Sinatra of the horse world. Handsome, talented, cool, and ever so dangerous.
Such a tremendous loss. I am privileged to have a son of his as my dressage mount…wonderful horse. He’s my profile pic.
I read that this morning. :’(
Such sad news.
Run free Giant’s Causeway. He certainly left his mark both on the track and his offspring.
He will be sorely missed.
His battle royale with Tiznow in the BC Classic is one of the all time great duels.
But his win in the Eclipse Stakes is probably his most memorable performance. Looked beaten, but found a way to win. Some absolute heavyweights in that race that day… Sahkee, Fantastic Light, Kalanisi and Giant’s Causeway.
Did he leave us with a developing 2019 crop?
And on the heels of Giant’s Causeway’s death, major U.K. stallion Dansili has been retired.
Giant’s Causeway had 38 live foals in 2017. He was bred to 31 mares in 2017 for his 2018 crop.
If he was bred this year, those numbers won’t be available until October.
i’m surprised by those numbers (but i believe you). i would have expected more for his 2017 year - is that a normal book for an older extremely successful stallion? or is it maybe because there are other (less expensive) stallions and/or sons out there?
I believe GC’s desire to breed was waning so he covered fewer mares in 2016 and 2017. In 2015 he covered 104 mares and had 76 live foals in 2016.
The stats are readily available (for all stallions) on the Jockey Club website:http://jockeyclub.com/default.asp?section=Resources&area=19
Part of the origin of the much deserved nickname Iron Horse for GC.
His five consecutive group I victories at five different tracks over a period of only 11 weeks
From Hangin’ With Haskin, A Giant Among Horses in the BH.
Pretty impressive!
