Do any other brand girth covers fit the Total Saddle Fit girth? LeMieux (Fairfax one), Mattes, County? Any thing else?
FWIW I have the TSF girth cover, and I find it very disappointing for the price. Seems to be a woolback type material, not sheepskin as advertised, and the velcro straps didn’t hold up to much wear at all. With daily use the velcro straps started fraying in a matter of weeks and totally fell apart upon washing.
I’ll also be curious to hear if anyone else has found a different (better quality) cover that works with the TSF girth.
I have the TSF cover and like you I’m disappointed. I have to say I’ve had mine for a couple of years and it’s been used and washed quite a bit but I take good care of it. I’m finding now that the ends of it slide out from under the girth and cause pressure points. It’s held up decently but the Velcro on the ends is useless now and I just don’t love how it’s washing up these days.
I think some of them might, but I’m curious about this too. All I know is that a boarder at the barn has a TSF cover for an anatomic, non-TSF girth, and it fits. So, seems like perhaps it could work the other way? I don’t mind that it’s not sheepskin–easier to wash. But if it won’t stay attached, that’s a problem.
I have the LeMieux Fairfax for my County Logic. Fits and washes up well, but do size up. After washing, I slip the girth in while the cover is damp.
Curious too…
I was rocking a homemade sheepskin one for my Prestige girth (similar to TSF), but unfortunately my leaser killed it in a hot car. It was cheap to make (approx $40 CAD to make, full sheepskin that slips off to wash) but a headache to make! Not super into doing it again. Will be watching thread…
I’m not familiar first hand with the County girth but comparing them in pictures it looks really close shape wise. Hmm, I may bite the bullet and order the LeMieux one.
@DarkJewel, make sure to size up. I got a medium cover for a 24" girth and it fits perfectly.
@Somantu Thanks, I will. I have a 30" girth so I have to get a Large anyways. Hopefully it’ll be enough!
I can’t speak to how it fits the TSF, but I have a few of the LeMieux covers and really like them. They stay in place and hold up well to washing. They’re a little difficult to get on and off, but that’s probably why they stay in place nicely.
I have the time…how did you do it?
Stupid, unrelated question, but how did that even happen? I only ask because I’ve seen quite a lot of sheepskin seat/steering wheel covers for cars that are advertised specifically for summer heat!
I replied to your PM heres a photo link to those interested: https://m.imgur.com/a/7vaLk it’s not of the anatomical girth, but same process.
I wasnt there so I only know what my leaser claimed. The sheepskin I used is also just a basic tanning, so maybe car products have been specially treated??? Or maybe only uses fur fibers and not the skin, so can handle quite a bit more.
but what I received was a rock hard piece of skin, like it had been cooked in an oven. I managed to somewhat revive it with leather conditioning wash, and brushing out the fur. Fur came back to life but the skin lost some of the suppleness and worse… it shrunk
Thanks! I was just curious. What a shame.
Leaving a (sweat?) soaked sheepskin in a hot car would do that. Heat is very bad for wet leather.
I understand not wanting to make another one. Sheepskin can be a pain to sew. I once sewed sheepskin onto a halter for someone. Afterwards I said I’d never do it again - not even for myself!
I was looking at the TSF girth covers and thought that
A) they were really expensive for a girth cover and
B) they looked thick- sheepskin plus quilted material - and would probably change the fit of the girth.
I am making my own from a thick berber fleece material- I’ll report back on how it works! That should do for every day. My mare gets rubs behind the elbows with any leather or neoprene girth.
If I get ambitious I’l move on to sheepskin!
Do you have the original TSF girth? I have the original girth, but use the StretchTech girth cover on it (because it is $30 cheaper) I just added my own strips of velcro.

100% real wool cover, custom shaped for the Shoulder Relief Girth. It is best for your horse.
I decided not to order the LeMieux cover as my girth is 30" and the cover would have been too short. What I can say for sure is that the Acavallo gel girth saver does not fit the TSF. The angle on the TSF girth is just a smidge too much for the girth cover.
Okay… I had left over gray fleece and light gray lining material plus some Velcro that I could repurpose. I traced the girth in the lining material, then added 3/4 inch around. Then the same size in fleece, then another fleece with an additional 3/4 inch. Positioned the velcro in the center, by each narrow curve and under where the buckles would go. Sewed around the initial trace then folded the extra fleece over the edges and ran another line of stitching over that. Rode with it today and it stayed in place and the horse seemed happier with the cushy girth cover. Will it hold up? Who knows. But in theory it is washable and it was free. I added the lining material because the fleece seems stretchy in one direction.
I am not sure my sewing machine can sew real sheep skin. But I would consider the fake stuff. On the other hand free is a good price and Gray is not going to show too much dirt.
