Girths with elastic on both ends

I want to get a girth with elastic on both ends for my horse. However, the only ones I have been able to find have fleece on the inside, which I do not want because my horse has lots of white and it looks overdone. Can you get a leather girth with elastic at both ends, or are they only made in nylon? Anyone like or dislike specific brands? Does the Professional’s Choice come in brown? I would like to be able to show with this girth.

Weatherbeeta has a brown girth with elastic on both ends and no fleece - same material as the ones with the fleece.

You really can’t get it clean unless the whole girth can get washed in hot water and disinfectant. Spritz it lightly with some disinfectant, since it probably has bacteria growing on it. Get it replaces every other year, even if it seems to be in good shape. Use a girth cover, and change your girth cover each time you ride.

Flash - I have a Prof Choice girth and LOVE IT. You just need to rip off the made in USA label (gasp) and PC logo, and nobody can tell it is nylon/neoprene. I have a pic of horse showing with it and it really looks like a plain old girth.

Try Woolite, the hand washing soap from the grocery store. Use a very soft old used toothbrush and make a little sudsy water solution with the soap. Apply it slowly to the soiled elastic. Towel off most of the moisture from the soapy water BEFORE you try to rinse the elastic. This will prevent driving the soil further into the elastic.

Then rinse carefully just the elastic ends in cool water, until they are squeaky. Carefully apply some oil or lederbalsam to the leather parts of the girth buckles to renew the moisture and you should be set!

We have the fleece lined nylon girths for everyday and the fleece lined leather for showing, but we also had a few of our old leather girths altered to have elastic on both ends ( they just cut down the one end and added elastic - so the shaping of the girth is still right).

WOW. Thanks all. I forgot about this one and have been too busy (hasn’t everyone this time of year) to go back & look. Thanks again.

Not sure if they make long girths with the elastic on both ends, but Whitman’s makes an AWESOME leather (short) girth with elastic on both ends.

You can order leather girths with elastic on both ends.
All our girths have elastic on both ends.
Call your tack shop and they can help you.

Flash44 - Ask your local tack shop if they can order one for you. I ordered a leather girth lined with the sheepskin with elastic on both ends and rollers. Wasn’t that much more expensive than a nice leather girth.

Holler if they can’t order it and I’ll pass along the name of the tack shop.

Pony Club always told us to use toothpaste to clean the elastics. It worked about as good as anything, I guess

Duh. I can just get elastic put on the leather end of my girth. Slap me silly and call me Flash.

A recent issue compared girths and they mentioned some with elastic at both ends.

You’re right, Flash! I had some elastic put on both ends of my shaped girth. Get it in brown so, as the local harnessmaker says, your horse doesn’t look like his underwear is showing.

The best method for cleaning the elastic is going to sound strange, but it really works (won’t remove EVERYTHING, but it makes them look nearly new). Take a toothbrush, rub the bristles on a bar of glycerin soap, wet it, and scrub away on the elastic. It works. It makes it wet, but it drys and looks 100% better!

Millers also has a Roma gel girth with elastic in both ends, comes in brown although the elastic is white. Only cost about $35-40. I just bought one and really like it. When I get a chance though, I’m going to bring my leather one to a tack shop and have them shorten it and put elastic in the other end.

I have seen brown Professionals Choice girths.

Can anyone tell me the best way to clean the elastic of a girth without harming the material to shreads? Suggustions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.
