Goes over a Sports Bra

I found sonething today which I think will change my life. I did not know about them before.

The sales woman called it a crop top. It goes over your sports bra. She said do not wear it without a bra.

I haven’t ridden in it yet. 50mm of rain last night. I did wear it all day. It lifted me and felt comfy. I think I have finally found somwthing that will control the bounce! YAY!

Tell us more :). Brand? Sizing? Price? I could use a bra miracle before spring riding season kicks in again!

Also, more deets on the “don’t wear it without a bra.” What is the material, support, etc. like? I ask because I like to have light support for sleeping so I am wondering if something like this, not over another bra, would be nice for sleeping or lounging around the house. Secondary question: what kind of bra do you wear it over? Over a sports bra or over a regular bra?

@ChasPonyCat , she said over a sports bra.

But, isn’t the purpose of the sports bra to prevent bounce? So you’re buying a 2nd item for the same purpose? Unless I could wear the crop top in the summer as an outer layer, I’m sure I would be too warm…
Yes, more details, please, so I could determine the viability

Hmmm, that seems strange. There are many many threads on here recommending good sports bras.

I live in Panache’s underwire sports bras. They’re very comfortable with no uni-boob and the straps can go straight or hook with a j-hook for racerback. I wear them all day (10+ hour days) straight and then just reach back to clip into racerback for riding. It prevents most bounce (32G).

Enell’s are great for NO bounce, but I find them too uncomfortable for all day use. Great under a show coat or for a clinic though.

Many other options if you do a search on this forum.

What don’t work are cheap pullover ones from Target (if you’re “blessed”).

Bahaha Fanfare you mustn’t be big enough. Nothing stops the bounce!. Bras with cross overs. Bras attached at the back. Bras a size too small. Bras 2 sizes too small. Straps that dig into your shoulders. 2 bras worn at the same time. You name it.

I specifically asked about wearing it with a sports bra. I joked about wearing it 24/7, with and without a bra. She said don’t wear it without a bra so I think she meant any bra.

I bought it from Autograph in Australia. Autograph is the brand name. $29.95. Sports Bras were $49.95.

She also said you don’t want more than 8% bounce!!! Yeah right. Maybe from now on.

Main 88% Polyester/12% elastane

lining 88% Polyester 12% elastane

Mesh 80% Nylon 20% Elastane

padding 100% Polyutethane.

I bought a size 16. I am 16-18 at the moment.

It is marked Active. She did ask how active the sport was and I laughed and said maximum so they might come in different levels.

It has a zip at the front which would be a lot easier if there was a clip at the top. It needs 3 hands to be put on. One to hold the bottom. One to hold the top together. One to zip the zip. I did make sure I could put it on myself before buying it. It was frustrating. I might sew a clip onto it.

Ah, my bad. Glossed over that part while reading at work. Anyway, ignoring that erroneous part of my post, still curious about the garment in question as I like wearing lightly supportive things to bed, when I don’t need to be totally strapped down but am more comfortable with a bit of support.

I am in Australia. It was a cooler day yesterday. I broke down and came home in a tow truck. I had on the sports bra, the crop top and 2 shirts as I had 2 quick jobs to do and just put my uniform on on top to be in and out and then I was going to take it off again. I was cold. I turned the air thing away from me.

It is rainy today. On hot days I usually get a wet shirt anyway so I will know then if it is comfortable or not.

This one is marked active. You can probably get a less active one for sleeping in if you want.

I got it on easier. I think I will get it with practise. Yes it is comfy. It feels like I am being hugged. I really think like with most things I should start off wearing it for 3 hour or so hours and build up. I did wear it for half a day yesterday.

A lot of things called “crop tops” are actually just low impact long line sports bras, and it kind of defeats the purpose to wear a bra over a bra. They’re really meant as bras for things like yoga.

For example:https://factory.jcrew.com/p/womens-clothing/activewear/colorblock-premium-performance-high-neck-crop-top/G3187?color_name=frost/neon-papaya

Id wear that for weightlifting or lounging around my house but I wouldn’t run or ride in it.

@SuzieQNutter sorry to hear about your breakdown- that sucks!!!
hmmm, I’m pretty sure I’m about your size. I hope the crop top works well for you! I like my Anita5527 (those who know me IRL will get the joke)- comfy and minimal bounce, even after 14 months (not daily wear though, just when necessary, so equivalent to <6 months of wear, really).

Actually, just looked it up, and I’m an 18-20 in Aussy sizes!

Suzie, you are well within the range of the Panache sports bra, and it holds well right through H cups. Most times women wear bands too big and that is why they don’t get proper support. The band needs to very, very snug on a sports bra especially, but we tend to size up in band for comfort and to find the deeper cups. I wish I had a contact near you I could suggest to check your fit.

Goes over a bra…I resisted wearing my vest even though my family ‘treated’ me, after the 10 breaks to my ribs. Eventually put it on, HATED it until the first sitting trot, then I fell in love…

That looks like it would be bullet proof KBC.

No comfort Alicat. 30 or so years of wearing bras and I said I have tried too small so extremely snug. Yes pain. Blood on shoulders feomstraps cutting in. Blood on breasts.

If I take my hands and press hard to my chest and jump they still bounce. This feels the same as that which is why I am so ecstatic. It makes clothes fit better as well.

She isn’t saying to wear a bra that’s too small. She is saying to wear the correct band size since the support comes from the band. If you are being cut by your straps you are trying to get the support from straps which isn’t how it works.

this is just a low impact zip front bra. There’s nothing miraculous about it, though I’m glad you found something that works for you. You’re wearing two sports bras which is a trick some of us have employed for a long time. Personally I just make my own now so they fit how I want. I think the pattern I use goes up to 40H.

I said I have tried too small, also correct size. Too big. Different cup sizes. Many brands. I have tried 2 bras before. I have been know to wear 3. That did affect breathing. I am not saying it is not known, I said I did not know about it before. It is not 2 sports bras as it cannot be worn without a bra. It holds me up further than any bra I have put on before. To me it is miraculous. I did wear it all day yesterday. It is comfy. It has changed my posture.

I am still loving it. It will be interesting to see how long it works. It does feel strong at the moment but time will tell. I will definitely buy more as in a good price range, so as I can wear one every day. Not just when riding but for everything as it is that comfy.

That is without crossing the first bra at the back as that gets uncomfortable for all day wear.

I still haven’t ridden in it. It is still raining. My 2 x pamphlet routes have been cancelled as well. So I haven’t ridden the bike either.

What’s in the picture up there is just a sports bra. That’s not a crop top. I’m pretty sure what the sales woman was telling you about is a long line sports bra-just a longer cut low impact bra that very much can be worn without another bra because it is a bra, and can be worn as just a top, hence the crop “top” portion of the name. I’m pretty sure she’s just trying to sell you more things that you don’t necessarily need, but if it works for you, do it.

I’d be interested in knowing what you believe to be your correct size, and what you measure as. I personally hate doing fittings based just on tape measurement, but I’d be happy to give you some suggestions via PM if you are interested. I own a specialty bra store and have helped many COTH members, so don’t feel creeperd out by my post

I wear a 16 D as the correct size. The thing I bought is a 16. As I said it goes over the bra, so if I bought a bra from you I would put if over the top. I am still loving it.

Ok, but I see people all the time who self size 16D and really are 12H.
