Good areas for boarding in Oregon

My husband and I are starting to kick around the idea of moving to Oregon to be closer to his kids. We’re retired and can live anywhere, so of course I want to be somewhere with lots of good options for boarding. I ride dressage very casually and do lots of trail riding.

So I’m looking for recommendations of areas or towns or neighborhoods that have a good selection of boarding stables. Just need general info now, although if you want to give any specific suggestions, I’ll take 'em!

The basics:
Within an hour or two of Portland.
West side of the Cascades.
Reliable care.
Decent turnout.
Covered arena.
Trails within reasonable hauling distance (5-10-ish miles).

TIY for any and all suggestions!

Oregon City, or most of the east side of I-5 from OC down toward Salem. OC has the most access to trail riding either directly from some of the barns, or an easy haul to say, McIver Park on the Clackamas River. There are a number of good barns in the Newberg/Sherwood/McMinnville area as well-- so to the SW of Portland.

It’s tough to find ‘decent turnout’ in the winter here, if your definition of turnout means grass fields. Most barns use all weather (gravel) paddocks for winter turnout. Not sure where you are coming from and what your expectations of turnout and care are…they differ sharply in the Portland area by discipline, that’s for sure!

Trail riding will mean hauling out to a trail system for the most part. There are barns that have some trails on property but not extensive acreage.

Most boarding is concentrated to the east of I-5 in the Oregon City south to Canby and on the SW side from Wilsonville up to Portland proper.

If you search for barns in the PDX area and come up with some names, I am happy to PM with you about them. I have a few in mind that might fit your needs nicely.

Thank you! This is just the type of info I want at this point. I’ll probably reach out to you once we’ve done some research and have started narrowing things down.
