I’m not sure if I totally understand how/why they work, though. Your comments/input/ideas welcome. Thanks.

Here’s a good explanation. It is used with a half shoe which simply means the shoe coverage is just beyond the quarters, not to the bars. It is a supportive and protective device primarily. Your original article is very interesting. It appears that trainers and owners make individual modifications to suit the horse. It looks to me with the pad’s greater surface area and the proper half shoe selection better traction is a plus for this pad. Using a pad such as this on TB or QH might be very problematic.

With a little modification, I could see it being used as a supportive device to treat chronic laminitis.
Good explanation, thanks Shammy! It does seem like it would be good for lamination.
We (or should I say my SO) often use something like this on our heavier moving horses. http://ladugardsinrede.nu/index.php?route=product/product&path=208_211&product_id=719 But the ones we use have more caulks for traction. A winter shoe more than all season, but often handy on a harder track since they could grab it a bit better and still provide some protection.
I had a TB hunter come to me with these on. Not sure why. I took them off and he is barefoot and fine.
