Good Blanket for weanling???

Can you guys tell me what blanket works well for weanlings? I am ordering new blankets today and tried one of my pony blankets on my 6mo old for reference. It fit him fairly well length-wise (it was a 62 and about 4in too long). So I deduced from that that the baby is about 58. I can’t buy a pony blanket though because the chest was WAY too big for him. I’m looking in my catelog for ordering blankets now and they have foal blankets but they only go up to a size 51.

I’m just not sure what to get for him. Can you guys help? Also should mention that I have one of the “grow with me” foal blankets, the ones that have velcro across the chest that can change length with your baby. But that isn’t going to work now for him because I need something to cover the length of his back and not be gappy and open on his shoulders. (I don’t think it would grow quite that big anyway haha)

I’ve had good luck with Schneider’s Jr. Blankets and SmartPak’s thinsulate. The Weatherbeeta Saxon ones also are cut smaller than regular WB blankets. I tried using one of the velcro wrap arounds one year and the babies thought it was a great toy.

I just bought a 2nd hand 54" Masta for a smaller warmblood/TB weanling filly. It has a slightly higher neck and fits really well in the chest.

I bought 2 (57" 60") Smartpak “Pink” thinsulate TO blankets in 2008/09 on sale. Both blankets have been through 3 sets of weanlings (stalls at night, TO during the day) and they are still in really good shape and waterproof. They fit well.

Schneider’s Jr. Blankets are fantastic…I have bought several and they always fit and are easy to adjust…I raise a lot of WB foals.

I have a weatherbeeta for the weanlings in need. But usually I don’t blanket them. One year, I had to for a colt that arrived here unprepared coat wise for the winter, he did fine with it the first few weeks, then, he became a Houdini. Taking the blanket off without tearing it apart. Each morning, she was lying in the paddock, neatly removed. Never say how he did it (the straps were all still attached). The blanket still holds, but had to have some repairs since then, with other baby users, less friendly with it.

3 weeks ago, we had a lot of rain, and our colt, now weaned, was not going into the shelter as his mom didn’t bother the rain. So at the end of the day, I was taking them in for the night, and he was drying with a “home made” baby cooler for the evening (I was removing it at the night check)… 3rd evening, I went to the barn, walked into the boxstall… to find my cute PINK home made cooler teared in several pieces and all buried in the shaving.

So… I guess the main question is… wich weanling blanket will stand the longest! lol!

Thanks for the replies! I think I’m going to try to Smarpak Thinsulate. They have a good return policy if it doesn’t work for him. If that one isn’t a good fit them I’ll try the Schneider’s Jr.
Thanks!

I have a 60" Centaur 600D Turnout Sheet on my 7 month old right now - it fits well in her neck and the drop isn’t insane. Coincidentally, I have the same sheet, same size, on my small standard donk, too. Very versatile!
