Good Cat Care/Health Forums or Sites?

I am quite fond of cats, but never was able to have one because my entire family is either allergic or doesn’t like them. BUT I just accepted a new job as the receptionist/vet tech in training at a clinic that specializes in cats. Yay! Super excited to get out of this dang office and work with animals again!

The vet and other techs there will train me from the ground up on all the technical stuff, which is AWESOME, but as someone who loves to learn and research, I would love to find some good online cat resources to broaden my knowledge of cat health care/diseases/etc. before I jump right in holding down some cranky kitties while they get poked and prodded.

Anyone have favorite cat sites or forums with knowledgable people and good information?

Congrats on the new job. Sounds like a good deal

Try thecatsite.com; it has a good forum, in a familiar format, and some pretty knowledgable people.

Welcome to the technician field! Prepare for a life of tiny paychecks and being pooped on

Ditto on thecatsite.com, and just for learning’s work…if your clinic has programs like VIA or Petpoint you can browse clients and read diagnostic paperwork, check radiographs, and see what medications the doctors prescribed. I learned tooons just on my own down time when I first started doing tech work. My roommate and I go up to the clinic she works at on the weekends and browse rads for fun, because we’re lame :stuck_out_tongue: Where I work theyre all digital, its not nearly as fun as pulling them out and slapping them on the board.

You have to be all kinds of brave…I’d take an upset Mastiff anyday over an upset cat…

HAH!!! i would take a mean cow or angry bull over and upset cat.

Thanks! I will definitely check out that site.

My first job was as a dog groomer’s assistant, and have worked at tons of barns… so I am way used to the poop and small paychecks! Plus hubby-to-be just got a fantastic job offer that comes with a HUGE pay increase, so it’s all good!

I am pretty brave and have a high pain tolerance… but will agree that angry kitties are a weeeee bit intimidating. They’re just so much… POINTIER than other animals. And they squirm! But I’m so very excited to start learning about and taking care of them.
