Good jumper trainer near Oklahoma City?

I relocated to Oklahoma City and I am looking for a good jumper trainer that I can haul into for lessons. Does anyone know of any good trainers within 45 mins of OKC? Thanks in advance!

I’m from Tulsa (and know most of the trainers there) and would recommend Amanda Eggleston.

I have heard good things about Amanda. I was just at the Go Show and was impressed by her riders and Joey Brumbaugh’s horses and riders.

Joey’s the best in the state IMO; he trained Sarah Milliren–'nuff said. His place is about 1 and 1/2 hr. drive outside of Tulsa. He used to do some trailer-in lessons on Sundays…
That said, Amanda was trained by Joey, was an A pony clubber and trained with Mike Huber when she evented. She’s a horsewoman as well as a trainer.
I agree she’d be the best choice w/in 1 hour from OKC.

Awesome! I will definitely look into hauling out to Joey or Amanda when I have some time. Does anyone know of any trainer (including eventing) that would be closer to OKC? Or even facilities that I can haul into to get some mileage for my horse?

What part of OKC are you in?

I’m in Edmond, but hoping to find someone who is within an 45mins-1hr that I can get to on a more regular basis.

So it looks like Amanda Eggleston is in Norman, which isn’t too far. Does anyone have any experience with or info about her?

Amanda Eggleston has Takeoff Farm in Norman (http://www.takeofffarm.com/).

If you are looking for a really close place to haul in to, Cadence Equestrian is right there in Edmond (http://www.cadenceequestrian.com/).

Let me know if you have any other questions and welcome to Oklahoma!

Awesome, I will go ahead and look into Amanda and Cadence. If anyone else has any leads on good trainers near OKC or facilities that allow people to haul in and school their horse for a day fee, please let me know.

Hi there! I live in Edmond too and board at the woodlands. It’s an eventing facility north of Waterloo off sooner. While eventing is the primary focus, they do have a new onsite instructor that does HJ stuff. Her name is Tracy Vacquero and she also has students at a farm in Guthrie. I can not attest to her skills on the ground or in the saddle, but I know she is available.

The woodlands also does have schooling pretty much any time. Just give them a heads up that you’re coming out. They have a dressage arena, stadium jumping field with nice jumper jumps and a 50 acre XC field that is well maintained.

Good luck in your search!

I actually schooled out there today and I am in love with their facility! Lance mentioned Tracy to me today and I was going to look into her. Do you know if she has a website?

Awesome! Do you happen to know if Tracy has a website? Also, how is the grass footing usually at the Woodlands? I was curious if the grass stays nice enough to jump on all year, or if it gets too hard when OK is having a more typical summer with less rain than this summer.

I don’t know if she does (the barn is working on theirs, though!)…but I spelled her name wrong initially. It’s vaccero. If you google her you will find some stuff she did in another lifetime in the 80s. She was a model/actress so that’s what primarily comes up. She has a daughter who was a big time jumper rider out of Las Vegas, but for the life of me I can’t remember her name.

As for the footing, I have been there a year now, so two summers under my belt. Of course both summers were relatively mild and wet, but the footing in the stadium area has been fine. I have heard from others that it can get hard, but I have not experienced it for myself.

They are really working on the XC footing too, and have eradicated most of the sticker patches. The Bermuda that is out there now is coming in nice and thick.

Where did you relocate from?

Depending on what you’re looking for and the drive you’re looking to make, I might have a few suggestions. I can’t tell you what’s best without knowing a little about what you need in a haul-in facility or instructor.

Feel free to message me, I’m happy to try to help if I can!

I have a friend /horse buying client who lives in Edmond. She does/teaches eventing and H/J. Her name is Loren McDougal. You can PM me for her phone #.

Joey came up to our barn and did a two-day clinic. I had a blast, learned a ton, did a lot of great things for my horse, and would highly recommend him based off my limited experience.

Awesome! I sent PMs. Thanks to everyone who responded. Also, how often does Joey clinic up near OKC?
