I work at the barn I also ride at and the pastures get absolutely awful in the winter with the rain and mud. Any recommendations for good muck boots that aren’t knee high or a hundred dollars? I considered using my rain boots but that got annoying really quickly. I’m looking for waterproof boots that fit/feel similar to riding boots, and all the rain boots I’ve found/seen are knee high and flap around while walking.
Also any recommendations for waterproofing techniques would be great, I’m trying to limp my boots along until I find a new pair/can afford a new pair.
Head over to TSC. In Addition to the regular muck boots which are pricey, they have a variety of other rubber boots. I bought some that are really cute last year on sale. They have little pink stripes on them but what I like about them most is they have superior traction. I own a pair of the pricey Muck boots as well. They’re sitting in the closet while I’m wearing these.
I love my muck shoes from “The Muck Boot Co”. I actually found my current pair gently used at the local tack shop. They come as paddock boot height and I have a tall pair for snowy days. This winter has been so warm I haven’t had to break those out. I’ve also had Bogs which were adequate but didn’t wear like my “Muck Boots”.
I have tall muck boots from The Muck Boot Company that I fold down if I am not in mud, water or snow up to my knees.
I also have a pair of paddock boot type waterproof boots from Noble Outfitters for wet, but not deep conditions.

Mine are the navy/teal color.
I wore them this morning, is snowing here.
They are wonderful, keep your feet dry and warm and with good arch support are very comfortable.

I love my Ariat Windermeres. They are tall but not to the knees, more like mid-calf height. Great support, and so comfortable that I sometimes ride in them too.
I was just in the same boat. Ended up choosing the Justin Ropers in big kid sizes from amazon. They were $41, much cheaper than the muck boot alternative and fit my wide foot better. I have no idea how long they will hold up, but I only got two years out of the last pair of muck boot brand, so I was willing to try them.
BUT, are those waterproof?

My Dryshods are wearing pretty well. They have a good tread on them too.
I have the Muck Boots Mudster Mid. If you go to Bluey’s first link and scroll down, they’re listed for $115, but I got them for $60 in a flash sale on Zappos in an undesirable color.
They are great. I have crappy feet (consider me an old mare with navicular) and I can wear these all day long without getting sore soles or rubs. They are warm and waterproof.

I have bought several different kinds but so far the best, most comfortable ones have been from TSC. They don’t last forever but are relatively cheap. I have very wide feet so many boots are too narrow in the footbox and these fit me. I am not dealing with knee deep mud here - just up to mid shoe level. Knee height are just not comfortable to walk around in very long.
What type of boot are you wanting to rewaterproof?
Let me offer you an ancient Chinese secret … or make that a modern day internet savvy consumer secret … companies will charge you a premium because you’re looking for “muck” meaning you must be an equestrian and they can get away with it.
I’m going on my third year with a pair of boots I got off of Amazon for around $20. Waterproof, tough as can be, and steel toed. My secret? Search under “shrimp boat boots.” 
These are the exact ones I got, but you may not appreciate the yellow color. Looks like you can do black for a whopping $3 more.

I get those same Servus rubber boots at Walmart and for that little, have for years.
They work fine, last for long time.
I did get some of the Muckboots and they are very different, very warm and not as sweaty and a completely different footwear feel to them.
I think there is a place for both, the cheaper but just as good boots are fine for serious rain and with heavy socks for big snows.
The others are better to work all day in the mud and on your feet hard, like working on fencing, etc.
The cheap ones are best for being in the worst, deepest water itself, but harder on your feet as a work boot as the ground and wet and weather changes.
Also of course the price difference.
That is just my impression.
Tingley Airgo, the tall one’s are a few inches below the knee, the shorter ones are high top basketball sneaker height. Extremely lightweight, no huge lug soles to carry mud… Fairly durable, I walk dogs daily in them, as well as muck stalls. Under $40.
I had the Muck Boot Chore. However, they are heavy and I feel like I have 5 lb weights on my feet. Oh well, I just need to get fit enough to cart them around. I don’t know…I have had them for 6-7 years(?). They are holding up very well and I can ride in them to boot.
