Good resources for new convert

I’m about 2 months into my transition from HunterLand to dressage, and looking to spend some free time learning more theory.

Does anyone have suggestions for good resources (books, websites, videos, etc) to get a better handle on the foundations? I’ve read through the USDF guidelines already, but I’m looking for more in-depth coverage.

If you’re on Facebook, Dressage Today has a site with some good visuals

Welcome to the “dark” side

I like dressageclinic.com Lots of good instruction there.

Check out Lessons with Lendon. It’s a long-running article series that Lendon wrote, compiled into a book. It’s really starts at square one, and gives you useful exercises that are easier than most to accomplish on your own as a beginner.

I recommend Beth Baumert’s book When Two Spines Align. It’s filled with great ideas, visuals, exercises, and information, and is very readable.

Also, seconding Lessons with Lendon.

Thank you! I’d also like to sincerely thank anyone out there who’s uploaded a test with judge comments to YouTube… especially if they’re normal humans who didn’t score like 75%

You also may want to look for “On the Levels,” if you like videos - they have them for all the tests along with top judges commenting on the rides as they go.

Glad to see another convert! I’ve ridden the hunters for 18 years and just started taking dressage lessons about 2 months ago too! I’m absolutely loving it, I have no idea why I didn’t try this sooner. I’m also looking for more resources to continue learning so thanks for the suggestions!
