I compete in the equitation/hunters and I’m looking for some good show breeches for next season. In the past I’ve mainly shown in Tailored Sportsmans and Dublin’s, and I wanted to broaden my show breech collection I guess. I’ve heard Equilines are good, but they’re pretty expensive. If anyone has any they like, let me know!
I love my RJ Classics breeches! They are cheaper than the TS’s and look every bit as nice and feel great. I am fussy about breeches. I loved my ROMFH breeches and the old Ariat Pro Circuits. Now I have Ovations which are ok but really dislike my Smart Pak Pipers. I am definitely saving for another pair of RJ’s.
I second all of this! Really like the RJs, maybe even more than TS. I like the ROMFH. I bought Ovations for this season and really like how they fit me. I did have to get front zip, which I am not terribly fond of. Do not wast your time on Pipers, they pill so quickly. Mine have less than 20 rides on them and are practically falling apart.
RJ Classics are $150 and great quality and fit! I’m also a big fan of Struck, but they are in the $250-$300 range.
I admittedly have more beaches then probably any person should have, and am an enabler. Lol I have Equilines and really like them. They fit maybe a drop smaller then the TS. I also really like the Animo breeches. I typically like the low-rise fit and both are low-rise. The Equilines have a rubber knee patch that is like no slip strips. I feel like it give you a better grip then the TS with the micro swede knee patch. The Animos also have a similar knee patch to the Equilines. Both have washed very well, and seem to be fairly durable.
I have also tried the Pikeur, and for me personally they were way too high-waisted or me, I think they are advertised as a mid-rise. I’m 5’2, and anything mid-rise comes just below my chest.
I could not find the Equilines on sale but the Animo’s can be found onsale on their site.
Happy shopping
Love my one pair of Equiline. My coach jokes that when I break them out she knows that I may have some issues with the upcoming class hahahaha!
Totally love my pikeurs. Every company fits a little different and pikeur fits me perfectly. I have a very long torso and just can’t stand the low rise breeches. Your best bet is to go into a tack store that has a good selection of these brands people have suggested and trying them on and seeing what fits best. Support your brick and mortar tack store!!
I show hunters/eq in Horze Grand Prix Extended breeches. The price is more conducive to my budget. I want to try the RJ Classics but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. For jumpers, I love TS. I have pipers but would never show in them (well, maybe cross country or jumpers). The pipers I have a hard time with the waistband and I find the Euroseat stitch line to be a little low for my figure.
I really love the Equiline despite the black patch on the side I could do without. They are the perfect rise. AND if you’re tall, they have brilliant silicon stops in the waist band to help keep your shirt tucked in. Just for that they are worth it for me. IF you order from Europe, they are also almost reasonably priced.
I always say to get the breeches that fit you best, you feel most comfortable and confident in, are within your budget. When you put on your boots and your jacket, in the hunter or equitation ring, all that can be seen of your breeches is the part from the top of your boot to the bottom of your coat. Basically, the part covering your femur. No one can tell what brand you are wearing, or how much they cost.
I have a new found love for ROMFH breeches! So comfy and fit me so well. I also have a pair of tailoreds i like, but don’t fit me as nicely. And if you’re looking for a budget friendly breech, equine couture or piper show breeches aren’t half bad either! I’ve shown the A’s in both kinds.
Tredstep Rosas are also a good buy for the price. A little less expensive than the RJs, but I think the fabric is a bit lighter too. I like but don’t love my Pikeurs, and actually prefer the Tredsteps and RJs to them. I also like the Romfhs I have.
All the brands listed above are great, I would like to add B Vertigo. They are amazing. Super comfy, can wear all day and feel like sweat pants. They stay clean, and I can never keep breeches clean. Smartpak and ariat are both nice brands
