Good Vet Visit (..an oxymoron?)

When your coach says, “Your pony looks ‘off!’” so you immediately go straight to worst-case- scenario in your head (“She’ll be unsound for life!”) and your very-booked-up (but beloved) vet is FINALLY able to make it out a week later and announces…

It’s just a soft tissue injury!

No lameness, just a few days of bute and some clay poulticing plus an additional week off of work. Ah happy days! I’ve already told anyone who’ll listen here at home, so obviously the next step is to broadcast it on the interweb.

The relief is actually two-fold, firstly that she’s okay and we can keep working towards our driving goals and secondly that I’m finally at a place in my life financially where the relief of the good news isn’t overshadowed by the anxiety of the resulting vet bill. Yayyy.

My cat had a $450 tummy ache a few weeks ago. I was really worried something was wrong but all the diagnostics came back perfect. It was a very good vet visit.

That’s an expensive tummy ache! Glad it was ultimately a good visit though.

I had one earlier this year. Hind leg bumped in turnout grew a hard bump a couple of inches below the hock on the outside splint bone. After some time of lameness failing to improve I had the vet out as I suspected a broken splint bone.

After a lameness exam she pronounced “Classic broken splint bone presentation.” and went off to get the x-ray machine. My horse obligingly held himself while I held the plate and the vet had the x-ray machine and we got a lovely clear shot of a beautiful, clean, intact splint bone. Another angle showed exactly the same thing.

I was doing the whole “what if he needs surgery” imagining disasters too. A bad bone bruise was a relief! I’m glad yours turned out well too!

Oh nooooo … I can only imagine the sinking feeling that statement would have caused (and then the genuine surprise seeing those x-ray results).

I have one too…really nice goose egg right over the splint bone. She wasn’t initially lame but had a couple times where she was slightly off after she either hit it again or aggravated it tearing around like a loon (BO’s new foal really had her wound up). Hauled her in to get lovely shots of a pristine splint bone. She still has the lump 8 months later. I will call it her living life jewelry. She is 20 and probably earned it?

 Yup! We were both looking at the picture on the screen in a kind of  way. There wasn’t even a fuzzy patch where the bump was.
