Goodbye, sweet Dublin (update p. 25, Dublin has crossed the bridge; update for details on funeral on page 32.)

I can’t make it to the service, but you are in my thoughts.
I would be happy to contribute, or to a donation to a charity in Dublin’s honour.

Many hugs during this time.

Dee Dee can now be free of all the pain & treatments that she endured. Now she can begin to ride again and have her choice of some wonderful horses!

Dee Dee… if you happen to bump into my pal Georganna… don’t let her hard shell scare ya. She is a wonderful woman, HUGE personality, and filled with jokes from Laffy Taffy wrappers. It’s been nearly a year since she exited her life with Lymphoma and Diabetes. She takes beautiful photographs too… so she’ll probably be following you around to get some equine action shots!

You are free now.

Show goals achieved & Sass is in foal! 8 months down... about 3 more to go.

And now there will be a straight line from Heaven to Earth…

Godspeed, Dublin.

When I first joined the BB Dublin sent me a private email that was especially kind and encouraging. She was a very special woman with a heart and character as big as Texas.

May peace be with you Dublin on your journey home, we’ll miss you terribly…

If anyone needs a good cry. Under the Cactuskate thread there is a topic about Dublin and Coreene’s visit. Seeing Dublin and Cactuskate on the same thread will take you to pieces… but at the same time i couldn’t help but smiling. So if you can take it, it’s a great thread to go through.

Today, tonight, tomorrow: When each of you ride and feel the wind against your face and your horse’s feet rhythmically tapping the ground; when you pat your horse and smell his sweet breath warm on the palm of your hand; when you see your riding pals and laugh about your latest exploits…

… think of dearest Dublin. May we all sense her kindred spirit as we participate in our wonderful life with horses.

Gulp…I don’t think I have ever read words that affected me as much as DUBLIN HAS CROSSED THE BRIDGE…

We knew it was coming, you told us to expect it, and yet…it came as a thuderbolt, leaving me with tears of sorrow for the loss of such a wondrous person, tears of relief for the end of her pain, tears of wonder at the nature of her love with David and his with her, tears of gratitude for being a small part of such an amazing, caring group.

Relish the memories, David, and know that Dublin’s many friends are sending prayers, and that they are your friends too.

Wesie

Thank you, David, for taking the time to share news of DeeDee with us. You are so fortunate to have found and loved each other.

I met Dublin in 2001 at the Pebble Beach Classics when she came to visit. She arrived resplendent in her COTH hat and as many others have already posted, I too liked her the instant I met her. What a lovely, gentle soul.Listen to your family, Dublin, do what they suggest, their love will guide you home.

When he printed out this thread for Dee Dee’s mom and sister, without the last two pages on here it was 198 pages long.

I said that I had been so moved by Earl Spencer’s eulogy for Princess Diana a few years ago, especially the last few sentences, which with a treak or so are exactly what I would wish to say at Dee Dee’s funeral if I could be there:

Above all, we give thanks for the life of a woman I am so proud to be able to call my friend – the unique, the amazing, the extraordinary and irreplaceable Dee Dee, whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds.

What a wonderful photo album that is. I had to go look at it again tonight, while trying to comprehend the fact that the lovely lady in those pictures is now cantering across the sky.

Thank you for posting David, and as Kryswyn said, don’t be a stranger.

I don’t know who wrote this - or even if it’s anyones because I’ve changed it over the years, but I call it
Pegasus’ Final Ride
We will fly, you and I
Up above the moonlit sky,
Silver wings to take you high
Hooves to dance your sad goodbye

Goodbye sweet Dublin, may flights of angles sing you to your rest.

Although I knew this day would come, I still feel as if a brick had hit me. David, I send you and Dee Dee’s mother and sister my deepest condolences. The world and this Board won’t be the same without Dee Dee’s bubbling personality and humor.

Thank you, David, for letting us peek in at the marvelous relationship that you and she had. It was a truly miraculous one.

Sadly, Maggi

David, that was such a beautiful tribute to Dee Dee.

Dublin, I’m going to miss you so much. I hope you have a peaceful passing, with a big rowdy party waiting for you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Life’s first green is gold
her hardest hue to hold;
so leaf subsides to leaf
as Eden sank to grief;
dawn goes down to day
as nothing gold can stay.

-R. Frost

David, thank you for your update. I’m so sorry for your loss, but at the same time happy that Dublin is no longer in pain nor is she suffering in any way. She has so many friends (introduced by their loved ones on this BB) to meet her over the bridge - what a party they will have! And Lord Helpus, I love your story. I’m sure it was Dublin helping you along!

On a “coincidental” note, the hospital where Dublin died is the same hospital where my friend was admitted on Friday after her water broke (7 weeks early!!).

I don’t know if it is appropriate to ask this or not, but I would imagine that those of us in the Bay Area would be interested in attending services. Coreene, will you be coming up? Dave or Coreene, if you have any details, feel free to email me at sculligan@mobiusvc.com. I’d love to come say goodbye to a wonderful woman.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. She will definitely be missed on this BB.

I don’t post here often but this thread is utterly devastating. I have cried as I read each and every post out of respect for Dublin.

They came too soon to call you home
We were there
You were never alone

My deepest sympathies to all those who loved her.

Darling Dee Dee, when you find yourself surrounded by all these gentle giant friends of ours who are waiting in a beautiful pasture for us, please can you give an extra kiss to Major and tell him that he is the reason that I was blessed with Willem.

My wonderful friend, you will be flying on wings of so much love.

and love for DeeDee with us.
here is a song that means so much to me in times of sadness - Summer Lightning
"I was driving west through the Bighorn Mountains
the hills were heavy with newfallen snow
and the sunbright hills, dappled like a pony
I was driving hard, I had miles to go.
And a magpie flew, 'cross the mountain highway
it flashed and tumbled through the gold trees
and I thought of you and my heart was lifted
and floated with that magpie,on the morning breeze.
For where I go, you go with me
though the miles keep us apart
your kiss is on my lips, and your face before me
And your gentle hand, always on my heart.
We are brief as summer lightning
we are swift as swallow’s flight
we are sparks that spiral upward in the darkness,in the night
we are frost upon a window
we won’t pass this way again
In the end, only love remains.
Tonight the harvest moon hangs across the valley
I see the hills shine in its silvery light
It’s the same old moon that shines upon you
It’ll light my way till I’m by your side.
well, who scattered these diamonds throught the vaults of heaven?
who drew the curve of a magpie’s wing?
who shaped your face? what made you love me
where is the spark of every living thing

Well, I guess I don’t know
I don’t care either
I know you love me, how could I not see
and I am yours, now and forever
'til my lips fall silent, and my eyes can’t see.
we are brief as summer lightning
we are swift as swallow’s flight
we are sparks that spiral upward in the darkness, in the night
we are frost upon a window
we won’t pass this way again.
In the end, dear, only love remains."

Dear David, the love that you and DeeDee shared will never end.
dear Dublin, go gently dear girl.
xoxo Gail
